I have a 7year old son that worries about every little thing. He gets stomach aches before school, thinks his heart is beating too fast among other things. We read this book with him and he was amazed thinking it was written just for him. It has helped soooooo much.
I highly recommend it to anyone that has a child that seems to worry that his/her arm will fall off because of the splinter in the finger!

This book simplifies the feelings that we all face and puts them into words. The illustrations and activities are wonderful for elementary-age children. I read this book with my daughter (age 7) and she immediately stated that it sounded a lot like her! It almost does feel as if it was written for her. I am now going to read it to my class of 6th graders with special needs.I also have the book about grumbles by the same author and it too is amazing.

I am a preschool teacher and a busy mom of 4 children. I have always incorporated relaxation concepts into raising my children. your site has made it so easy to find wonderful books like What to do When You Worry Too Much. My 5 year old started kindergarten and was worried...new school, new town, new experience... I started using the tools from this book and found them so successful that I decided to use them in my preschool class..Kids today are all dealing with worry on one level or another.. I also use relaxing music to help my class nap or just calm down..When children experience relaxating moments throughout their day I believe that they benefit now and as an adult. I use The Most Soothing Lullabies In The Universe and Indigo Dreams: Kids Relaxation Music Decreasing Stress, Anxiety and Anger, improve sleep. I encourage all teachers to introduce their classes (whatever age) to such important life altering concepts

My 8 year old daugther suddenly began to have fears when I would drop her off at an activity. She cried and didnt want to go and would worry endlessly that I would not pick her up from her lesson. Her new behavior came on suddenly and was odd because she had previously never had trouble with going to an activity. At first, I must be honest and say that I didnt take her crying seriously...I just thought it was an attention getting behavior or really laziness about her lessons or activity. Once I began to identify her troubles as worry or fear I spoke to a good friend who is a psychologist and therapist. She recommended this workbook. This workbook worked wonders for my daugther and I. I read through it and then worked through it with my daugther. My daugther was able to identify with what the author was saying and it really reassured her that it was normal to worry. The workbook helped her identify and name her fears and we used the therapy to create tools for dealing with her worry. The workbook also pushed me as a parent to not feed the worry. We made it through almost the entire book when she suddently began to not worry near as much. Although we are done with the workbook, we still use some of the tools we learned. I HIGHLY recommend this book...hey...its cheaper than therapy and it worked!

I just received three of the books in this series. The font is nice and large and the readings and activities look simple but fantastic. Im writing to let everyone know that on the books it says Ages 6-12 but your site gives them a reading level of 9-12. They would be perfect to read even to a 5 year old.

We just received this book today. My 6 yr old daughter and I started reading it and doing the workbook pages and couldnt put it down. We both LOVE it. She worries about everything resulting in headaches and stomachaches every day. The way this book is written is genius. She relates to it so well. Nothing is worded over her head. This is the 5th book I have bought on the subject and definitely the best, most helpful. If you have a worried child buy this book!

This book is perfect! I read it as soon as we recieved it and I loved it, then when my 7yr. old was reading it he was saying, Mom can we underline this part, and Mom Mom yup thats what happens. He Really could relate to the way this is written. The author puts fears and worries into perspective, AND gives great techniques with examples and explanations for him to deal with is worries. Only had it two days and its the best thing I think ive bought in a long time!

I am a school counselor and a therapist who works with children. This is a gem of a book. I have used it in a group I run for girls dealing with anxiety. There are some great exercises that we used in the group, that the girls loved!

My 10yr old son started having anxiety issues following a long bout with illness. We did contact the local counseling center, but it was going to take 4 weeks to see the therapist (we live in a very rural area). We got this book hoping to find some way to help him deal with his worry. It made all the difference in the world. We would work on it a little at a time each day, and he would practice the skills. By the time we saw the therapist my son already had a tool chest of skills to use. He is doing well now and still practices the skills. I cant say enough good things about this book. If your child is having difficulty with worry, this should be the first book you go to!

I am a mental health provider and this book is GREAT at helping kids understand what anxiety is and the ways they may unintentionally make it grow and become overwhelming (using the metaphor of a tomato plant). Kids can really grasp this concept. There are also some practical ways to help them take care of the anxiety and not see it as them, which makes it more empowering and manageable. The only reason I did not give it a 5 star was because I though that in the 3rd chapter, they should expand more on the abstract concept of using logic and been more specific on how to do this. Otherwise what a fantastic workbook!

I have used this in session with a child struggling with generalized anxiety. It was very helpful--both in giving our work in session a helpful direction and in providing the child and her parents with helpful tools to use at home.

and creates open dialogue to feelings they (cant) dont know how to express by themselves.

This book can help provide a child with information and strategies to reduce anxiety.
The author first provides the child with reassuring insight as to why worrying sometimes becomes problematic for a person. The author then proceeds to outline a very child-friendly cognitive-behavioral plan for overcoming anxiety.
At our child and family counseling clinic, we use cognitive-behavioral therapy as one component of treatment, and we often use this book as an adjunct to therapy. For example, we might ask that the child and parent read the book together as a way to review some of the techniques that the child has learned and practiced in therapy. Taken home, the book serves as a concrete reminder of strategies to be used in daily life. I have had parents tell me that, after termination of therapy, their children ask to periodically read this book and do the exercises; some children have even lent the book to friends.
I believe that this book would also be good as a stand-alone book for parents to purchase for use with their own children. I would recommend that the parent and child read the book together, one section at a time, giving the child time between sections to reflect on the information and practice the recommended strategies. Keep in mind that just reading it will often not be sufficient; usually the parent will have to see that the strategies are actually used in day-to-day life, when and where they are needed. If the parent has difficulty doing this, then they might want to seek professional help, but this book will definitely give them a good start.
