Good book with yummy recipes. Some have lots of ingredients and I like to keep it simple, but otherwise a really good tool.

I love this book. The words from Losers are inspiring, and the diet is easy to follow. The Mobility Moves look easy, but I work up a sweat every time I do them. Since reaching age 50, Ive found it quite difficult to lose weight, even though I work out regularly. This is day 8 for me, and Ive lost six pounds so far. My hunger has been minimal, and my cravings for bad carbs are fading fast.

Most of the meals are tasty but if you follow the meals to a tee you will end up throwing away a lot of ingredients. I gave it three stars because its worth it for the menu. A lot of great meal ideas.

I appreciated the experiences that the individuals had to share in this book. Several of the recipes were surprisingly tasty!! I do not do well sticking to a diet when someone else tells me what to eat each day because alot of times I do not like their choices. But I felt like there were so many choices in this 30-Day Jump Start book that I could choose from, that it was easy to follow. I felt like many of these peoples issues were the same as mine, so it was encouraging to keep me going. I have neck and shoulder problems from a car wreck and cannot do push-ups, but any exercise I can do for my chest and upper body area, I do to the best of my ability, which is basically a beginner level. Everything else is an intermediate level. I love this book and bought the Biggest Loser Cookbook as well.

But....I do and LOVE the Biggest Loser show! LOL! I just purchased this book and I love it! This book is perfect for someone who has never exercised a day, except to push a button on the remote to change the Tv channel. The 30 day Jump Start, is exactly that--a way to get your body/butt in gear, without trying to kill you in the first go! If you have never worked out or havent worked out in a long, long, time; then the workouts will be challenging enough for you til you get better and incorporate more exercise into your life. While the message is simple--mostly things we know already, the book is inspiring by reading the contestants stories and seeing their pictures. A couple of posters complained that the books all are the same and say the same info; to a point, that is true. They do say the same kinds of things in all the BL books but they dont say it exactly the same way or verbatim; word for word, paragraph, for paragraph.
If you have been overweight for a long time, you know most of this information already from years of dieting and doctors telling you over and over but it doesnt mean you will not learn something new and/or it is nice to have the information written close at hand to reference when you need to. Sometimes we need to hear a message over and over before it finally sinks in. Plus, I suspect that they didnt really think that someone is going to purchase ALL the books, anyway (except for me! I am a MAJOR fan and will buy ALL of them!); so it makes sense that they do that. A review here complained the recipes contained fake food; I have no idea what he was talking about and I didnt see anything fake in the recipes.
And another said the recipes were not worth the book because the food was too simple, plain and nothing special and that he could make his own mothers meatloaf recipe and not get one from this book. Well....in a sense, thats kinda the point. The recipes are supposed to be easy, things you can find at any supermarket and staples people love but needed a fat/fried/greasy makeover. I thought the recipes were great! I loved the Fish Taco, Portabella pizzas, smokey sausage lentil stew, Stuffed Mushrooms, Sesame chicken with noodles, Grilled Salmon Burgers.....whats not to like? They are simple, easy, tastes great and I dont have to hunt down certain ingredients in specialty food stores and the book doesnt contain frou-frou food, I would never make; like Vichy Sous, Blah-de-blah blah Tartar or something. Just normal everyday food with a few twists and changed from the greasy, fatty way we used to eat them. Please do not be afraid to buy any of the BL books because of a few bad reviews!
And even though they have the same nutritional information, they do NOT contain the same recipes. If you are truly in doubt, do what I did: Go to Target, Walmart, Walden Books, whatever and thumb through them to see if you want to buy them. Then come buy them here because they are way cheaper! LOL! I am a your site junkie; I will never buy at a physical bookstore again. I just do a thumb-through of books I like and then buy then here! :o)

This plan is easy to customize. Some reviewers gave this book low marks because the menu plan calls for something like 8 asparagus spears and the reviewer was throwing out the unused asparagus since it went bad before the next meal with asparagus come around on the plan. Unless you are so rigid that you have to follow the menu plan EXACTLY, why not swap the dinner menus around for another that uses asparagus again? Or buy your asparagus from a market where you dont have to get a whole pound.
Use part of a banana for the breakfast with Banana Nut Oats and the rest of the banana in your morning snack instead of the planned snack for that day. Oh, and for the reviewer who complained about the recipe for Blueberry muffins yielding too many muffins.... blueberry muffins do freeze well and theres probably nothing wrong with swapping breakfasts so you have the muffins twice in a week.
There are some recipes in the plan that I know I wouldnt like. Im certainly not going to eat that anyway just because its on the plan. Im going to swap that meal out for one I like. I took the time to write out on index cards the separate breakfasts, lunches, snacks and dinners that I like. I mix and match the cards for each day to get the appropriate number of meals. I can use this system to better plan my meals to use up ingredients before they spoil.
Yes, its not following the books menu plan to the letter. But you know what? Its sure better than the way Ive been eating! And Im sticking to the plan since Im mixing it up to suit my tastes and use up ingredients I buy. If Im a little over or under my calorie count for the day, no big deal for me. I figure it all balances out in the end.

The Biggest Loser 30-day Jump StartThe Biggest Loser 30-Day Jump Start: Lose Weight, Get in Shape, and Start Living the Biggest Loser Lifestyle Today! is a manual for good health. The first section of the book are testimonials to inspire you to get going. There is 30 day chart of activities to slowly get you started to exercise. Each of the 30 days has a menu and recipes for meals on the plan. At the same time I ordered the Biggest Loser Cookbook. I also ordered the Biggest Loser for the Wii that has exercises and journal to store your achievements. I also have Julian Michaels exercise program on the Wii [[ASIN:B002ECN43C Jillian Michaels Fitness Ultimatum 2009 and 2010](havent started this yet but will soon). All of these tools will get you pointed in the right direction to do as much or as little as you want to get to your goal weight.

The Biggest Loser 30-Day Jump Start by Cheryl Forberg, RD, Melissa Roberson, Lisa Wheeler, and The Biggest Lower Experts and Cast is a great book for the complete beginner who does not know where to start. This book is for people who are in the same boat as those that start the popular television show. Except for the recipes and a few of th training tips, this book wont offer much to the person who is already committed to a fitness plan. Unless, that is, you are a fan of the Biggest Loser show and want a little boost of motivation as you read about the contestants you are already familiar with.
The book is a 30 day program of eating and exercise, including recipes for the daily menus and a lot of motivation from former contestants and tips from trainers Jillian Michaels and Bob Harper. The menus are great, and the recipes for the dishes are included. The exercise program is very, very basic. Again, this is for the person who has never exercised, or at least hasnt for a very long time.
Day one starts out with 20 minutes of walking. Beginners are instructed to break it into two 10-minute sessions. Challengers (Those with a little exercise under their belt) are told to walk for 20 minutes. Then there are 10 minutes worth of simple mobility and body-weight exercises. So on day one, you have a total of 30 minutes of exercise. Each day a little is added, so at the end of the 30-day program you are up to over an hour of exercise and doing some exercises with weights.
For the absolute beginner, Id recommend reading the book quickly. Then go back and start the program. Read the first weeks menus and plan accordingly. Go shopping for the healthy ingredients so you can follow the meals. Follow the exercise plan, and read the inspiring stories of the contestants for motivation and use the training tips to help you along. If you are already exercising and engaged in a fitness program, this book may provide some motivation if you enjoy the show, and it contains some good menus and recipes, but you wont want to follow the program. Its only for absolute beginners.
I do believe that by following the program in this book, the complete novice will start to learn fitness basics and begin a lifestyle of health. The last chapter has an encouraging word as to where to go next. This definitely is just the first step, or as the title claims, a jump start toward a fitness lifestyle.

We all know the first 30 days are critical to changing any bad habit -- or making good ones. Thats why I was so interested in getting my hands on The Biggest Loser 30-Day Jump Start. I was not disappointed.
This book is a fantastic launch pad for people who want to lose weight, get healthy and make rapid, comprehensive lifestyle changes related to wellness. Using real contestants as peer models (including past winner Ali Vincent, who seems to be becoming the poster child of the franchise), the 30-Day Jump Start provides a month-long day-by-day meal plan and exercise routine. Both are diverse and easy to follow.
The fitness components are illustrated through step-by-step photograph sequences, making them extremely user-friendly. The workouts start slow and build rapidly, including strength training and cardiovascular activity, and include some modifications.
The menus and recipes are also good. I noticed a few repeats from recipes used in other Biggest Loser books, but theres not much overlap.
Overall, this is an exceptional guide for beginning dieters or anyone needing a refresher on the basics of nutrition and exercise for weight loss. Its full of encouragement, sound advice and practical tips, and I will be recommending it to friends.

I have been following this diet/workout routine for 2 weeks and have only lost a half of a pound. I think the diet is too high in carbs for me but I dont really know why it isnt working. I havent cheated, Ive consumed 1250-1550 calories daily, Ive done the exercises. Ive bought the organic food. Its just disappointing. It goes to show that every diet doesnt work for everyone. I just really was ready to stick to it and I havent seen results so it makes me feel like giving up...again.

I really enjoyed this cookbook.
I think the intention is to provide most days with three different meals and 2 different snacks but this didnt fit well in my life.
Most of us eat the same things every few weeks, if not every few days, so I would recommend trying a few days that look appealling and repeating them throughout the 30 days. I didnt lose with this, I think because it is so limiting, and I do much much better with weight watchers. I like being able to eat pizza for dinner as long as I have alotted it into my daily diet. This book doesnt do that, it is very strict, and for me, very hard to stick to.
Overall I recommend because it does have good recipes that I will feed to my 4 little boys.

This diet plan is not a work friendly diet. Most days expect 1.5-2 hours in the kitchen in addition to the hour plus exercise you should be doing. Many of the lunches and snacks require cooking or blending of some sort which is almost impossible if you travel to different work sites each day and need to carry a portable lunch that can be eaten cold. Also, there are no exchanges or explanation for exchanges for items like shrimp which some of us cannot eat due to allergies. Unfortunately, it has been impossible to follow the plan accurately with so many work unfriendly meals. Cold bean burritos and cold turkey burgers just arent that yummy or pleasant to eat. Also, I would have liked some additional guidelines for the days I needed to make changes. On a positive note, many of the meals are tasty especially the breakfast combinations. Overall, I would not recommend this plan if you do not have the time to devote to the cooking, chopping, and cleaning it requires.

I am currently at the end of my first week. All my life I have gone up and down 10-20 pounds-so I certainly can lose weight if need be. Following this plan has given me a new heathier eating plan. I already have the exercise part down-just need to work on frequency.
I do agree with the negative reviews regarding buying something and only using it once, however I look at this more as ideas for meal planning. For example I have had the same breakfast twice using up two english muffins. I also subbed an english muffin for a bun for a turkey burger, and used one for a turkey sandwich so I dont have 5 different bread products. I also sub fruits (apple/pear/grape-pretty much the same) based on what I have on hand and whats in season.
I am a busy ft working mom, and have managed to plan ahead (I put all my meals in a spreadsheet) with a lot of prep work being done at once and havent had issues. Most of the evening meals my family eats what the BL menu right along with me, might add a starch for them, so far they love it. All the variety of the meals should make this program last me more than just a month.
