I grew up on the Beatles. I love their music. While you get a really good selection of their songs on this CD, obviously they couldnt use all of them. Thus, they should have made 2 CDs. Two of my favs are not on here, but I still think this is the best CD to buy if you want an overall good selection of Beatles songs.

This is a good disc. But it does not have twist and shout, here comes the sun,or a day in life.Still this is a very good setlist from a very good band. They had tons of great songs on there like Let it be,Hey jude,Yesterday,Come together,Day Trouper and more buy this.
Paul and John were the best in the group, George and Ringo pretty good.I was born in 2000 but still love this band.the Black eyed peas and Owl city eat rotten eggs.Dont buy there albums. But the Beatles, Elvis and Led zepplin changed rock.Buy there albums.
Also check out the Tyler bryant band thats todays king of rock oppening for aerosmith, reo speedwagon, pat benatar and heart not famous now but later he will be famous.
But the beatles are the best ever now question about that.Buy this beatle album.

No one could dispute that this CD contains some of the most wonderful pop music ever recorded. My only reservation is that the chronological progression, however valuable as document, does not present some of these songs that well. Because Love Me, Do was their weakest song (I am certainly glad they recorded it---it put them on the map), this CD has a weak opening. From Me To You is not all that good, either, compared with other songs they did at the time. And The Long and Winding Road, with the dread Phil Spector overdubs, sounds so little like the Beatles. So this CD both opens and ends weakly. And where is Please Please Me, not only a wonderful song, but their first number one?
I guess it could been regarded as a musical trajectory---the artistic rise and fall of the Beatles. But its a good CD to play on shuffle.
Think of how strongly Pepper and Abbey Road both begin and end. The Beatles 1 does not have this quality. But do not misunderstand, it is essential anyway.

In theory, 1 is a great idea; collect all the Number 1 singles from one of the greatest bands in pop history on one disc. Not only would such an album be an exceptional collection of music, it would also be very useful for fans, given the haphazard nature of some of The Beatles compilations, and the fact that many of their singles never appeared on studio albums. And thats exactly what 1 delivers, all 27 (!) of the Fab Fours singles that reached #1 in either the UK or the US (or, often, both).
From an artistic viewpoint, there is certainly no arguing with the music here. This is simply some of the greatest music not just of its time but ALL time. From catchy pop songs, to folk-influenced minor chords and introspection, to ambitious psychedelic epics, The Beatles redefined the idea of what a rock band could do. Every song here is a classic, from the simple Love Me Do to the sweeping orchestration of Penny Lane. The songs are presented in chronological order, allowing us to follow their increasing ambition and complexity, and the packaging is generous, with a collection of photos from every era and a short essay by George Martin.
But as a collection, 1 falls just short of being the definitive collection it wants to be. I know it sounds very churlish to claim that an album containing 27 outstanding songs is lacking something, but it must be noted that some very important tracks are missing. Collecting only those singles that made #1 means the album leaves off songs that fell just short of #1 (Please Please Me, Strawberry Fields Forever) or that formed the B-sides (I Am The Walrus, Revolution). There is no question that these four songs are an essential part of The Beatles legacy, and their absence is noticeable as the album plays. For this reason, I would still recommend the Red and Blue collections ahead of this one, plus of course the original studio albums.
So Ive got mixed feelings about 1. Everything thats here deserves to be, and having so many important singles on a single CD is handy. But by definition the album is not quite as strong and comprehensive as it could be, and I cant recommend it ahead of Red and Blue.

Ok this misses out some of the good No2s and lower Poisitioned songs, Sgt Pepper, Lucy in the sky with diamonds and Iam the Walrus for example. But you cant complain because all these songs are brilliant and thats all I need to say because I leave this album, to go by the bands reputation

This CD is great! Lots of the best Beatles songs (27 I believe?), and its a really good price. Much cheaper than a store like iTunes would charge (although you cant buy the Beatles on iTunes anyway). If you like the Beatles even a little bit, youll like this CD.

I enjoyed this CD immensely as it covered a wide range of Beatle hits over their years on top. But for a true Beatles fan, I suspect that nothing but the complete collection of their songs will do.

This was the first CD I heard from The Beatles back in 2006! It turned me into a fan right after listening to it. This is what you need to buy if youre new to Beatles music and you want to know why they made such an impact in music history.

I bought this CD because it contains four songs that are hard to find or at least find in a complete studio recording format. Im speaking of Hey Jude, Ballad Of John And Yoko, Get Back and Long and Winding Road. The first two were released only as singles. Back in the day I bought them as 45s and they never appeared in any LP formats except maybe in compilation albums. The second two were also released as singles I think but also appeared on the Let It Be album in a somewhat shortened version and performed live on a roof top. The Let It Be version of Get Back was especially disappointing because the song is noticeably shorter than the 45 version. Its almost as if they felt obligated to add it to an album to give the popular song more exposure. Say, does anybody know how much my old 45 versions of the above tunes might be worth?

Twist and Shout your way into Beatles Number 1 hits. Pop culture is not Pop without them. It is a great collection! No problems with sound quality.

There are many Beatles compilations, but this is one of the best and probably the most convenient because, unlike others, it is a single disc collection covering their whole career. Perhaps most importantly, it is surprisingly comprehensive - an astonishing twenty-seven songs from each year of their professional career. Compilations have two possible audiences: hard-cores and casuals. There is certainly nothing for the former, as all the songs are widely available elsewhere; only those who truly must have everything should even bother. That said, it is near-perfect for the latter; this is the only place to get so many Beatles songs on one CD, and the collection is representative and thoroughly excellent. With a canon like The Beatles, collections must have some kind of theme, and this one is interesting - it contains all the bands cuts that were #1 in the US or UK. The tracks could have been chosen in many ways, but this is more rewarding than most in that it lets one hear a good number of the bands best, most famous, and most important songs. A few Beatles albums are best heard whole, but the group consistently released its best songs as singles, and an incredible amount went to #1, ensuring a great collection. Virtually everyone is very familiar with many or most cuts, but hearing them chronologically is fascinating; listening to the band change and progress is very rewarding. Anyone wanting a Beatles entry point could hardly do better than this.

Theres a reason why this compilation was such a huge worldwide hit nearly three decades after the Beatles disbanded -- for the kids of the 90s, its really a one-stop introduction to the greatest band that ever sang together.

Generally, I try to avoid compilations but this one just sounds so crisp, without a single bad song (if the Beatles are capable of it). Perhaps it has to do with my indoctrination at a young age, my parents had it on all the time. I have all of the the main releases, but Id still much rather put this one on. 1 sounds fuller, you can hear more of the subtleties in the guitar, not to mention the bass is considerably more prevalent.
You know when you listen to a CD in a certain chronological order and you get the track listing memorized? If you hear the songs in a different arrangement afterwards, it just doesnt feel right. Since this was my introduction to the Beatles, the progression is cemented in my mind that way. Anyway, the transitions in sound and mood are great on this album.
If you want to hear the band as youve never heard them before, with no fluff or filler, pick up this album.
