Love my Sodastream. Great alternative to over prized sparkling water from the supermarket.
Pros: instant availability and still a great deal
bottle cap has a seal that keeps carbonation longer in the bottle
you can adjust the amount of carbonation (more needed for flavored soda)
less trash production since you use the bottles again
In store carbonator exchange at Bed Bath & Beyond (you can use 20% off coupon) available

Cons: Hope the exterior (fountain) will last, made of cheap plastic

have no opinion on the soda flavors

Wish there would be 1/2 liter bottles for to go available

Overall the best purchase I made this year!

You can cheaply get refills for cents at a paintball store. Check the usage instructions on the can in case it harms or poisons anything. It looks nice. I have a family member who drinks way too much soda and itd be perfect for that person. Christmas is coming.

We are using and enjoying. I find it very satisfying to make soda water whenever I want and do so from filtered tap water. I only expect to carry a box of bottles when entertaining as we are limited to 2-bottles every couple hours as the water needs to be chilled prior to carbonating. The system is a bit pricey but youre paying for the concept and they have figured it out so that it is economical, though it is a matter of time until theres a more local/less expensive method for refilling the CO2 tank. All in all, this is a great product.

I really like the concept of Soda Stream, I like making my own sodas and I also like most of their mix flavors. Petes Best is especially tasty. I have not had problems with the gas running out too soon.

What I have had considerable headaches with is exchanging empty Co2 bottles for full ones. See, you have two options for returning bottles: 1) Contact their customer service through the website and arrange an exchange. The problem with this is that it can happen one of two ways and the company will not give you a choice in this. Some customers can receive a prepaid UPS box for returning their empties. However, some customers must return their empties via a local courier. Unfortunately, living in the third-largest city in the US, the latter was the option selected for me. On multiple occasions, the courier delivered my full replacement bottles without taking the empties away. I contacted customer service, who were fairly polite but extremely stubborn to the point of being obtuse. They kept contacting the courier who would show up at random times to pick up the cylinders. I dont have a place outside to leave a box of cylinders and I cant take days off of work to wait at home for a courier! What is more, the customer service absolutely refuses to give me the contact information for the courier so I can coordinate a proper pickup time with him. The last time we attempted to return the bottles, the courier himself actually left his cell phone number and said to give him a call, which I did. I very easily arranged to have him pick up the empties in the cleaners/package room of my building. When I called Soda Streams customer service to let them know this, they actually called me back an hour afterwards, claiming I had not contacted the courier and that I needed to give them the pickup information! Bad communication and BAD organization!

Supposedly your other option is to bring your empties to one of the retail outlets who sell this system. This includes Williams Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond, Macys, a few different cmaping and outdoor shops, Sur LaTable, Crate & Barrel, etc. The problem is, most of them flat out refuse to accept exchange carbonators. Even if it says on the SodaStream website that they do, if you call the business and ask or show up with your empties, they will either not know what youre talking about or will refuse to take the empties and will instead try and sell you brand new bottles at full retail. It seems they all carry just the 60L bottles, nobody seems to have the 100L bottles. So, even though I should be able to just go to Macys or wherever and exchange, even if theyd take my empties they only have the smaller bottles.

This is overall a great concept, but the logistics are sorely lacking. If SodaStream would quit being penny pinchers and just give everyone the prepaid UPS boxes things would be MUCH better. Trying to work with local couriers without even being allowed by SodaStream to talk to them directly is about as much fun as trying to teach my cat to program a Tivo (and seems to have a similar success rate).

Ive had my Soda Club (now Sodastream) for several years (since 2007). I ordered it from Soda Club directly as they were having some kind of deal at the time and came with two CO2 cannisters, four bottles and some sample packs.

I bought the Fountain Jet for several reasons:

    1) No more lugging home heavy liter bottles.
    2) Cost per liter (at the time) was about 17 cents (its gone up to 22-25 cpl since then).
    3) Soda flavors they offer are reasonably tasty (but I dont drink them now).
    4) Reasonably convenient for refills (at the time, not so much now) at Boaters World (now out of business)
    5) Reusable bottles (less trash for the bin)
    6) Can mix my own healthier soda with unique flavors (this is my primary reason today)

So, these are the basic reasons I purchased. The initial investment was a bit hefty for the unit, but it certainly does what it claims.

    Pros:

    * The bottles are very well built and hold carbonation in amazingly well (for weeks). Far far better than store bought bottles.
    * The flavors they offer are diverse. I occasionally drink the caffeine free diet cola.
    * Unit takes up a reasonably small amount of space
    * Easy to set up and use
    * Variable carbonation amount from weak to very strong
    * Unsweetened MyWater flavors make excellent sodas

    Cons:

    * CO2 cannisters are licensed and may not be refilled under that license
    * Cannisters have an internal valve that prevents casual refilling, but they can still be refilled even with that valve in place
    * Diet sodas contain Splenda (not a fan of Splenda or Aspartame)
    * Unit is a bit noisy when carbonating
    * Bottles are hard to clean

When I make soda, however, I use unsweetened flavorings to create my own sodas. I then add in my own favorite liquid sweeteners to sweeten it up. This works amazingly well. For sweetening, I use half liquid Stevia and half liquid Sweet n Low. This combination gives a very solid sweet that tastes amazingly close to sugar (very little aftertaste). I use various flavorings (Cherry, Raspberry, Banana, Coconut, Lemon, Root Beer, etc). These all make amazing sodas and some are unique in that you dont find Banana or Coconut soda in the store.

I also use the Sodastream MyWater which are unsweetened extracts. These also make amazing sodas when sweetened as above. I would love to see Sodastream release an unsweetened caffeine free cola MyWater. Then, I can sweeten it myself and get the best of all worlds.

Im only giving this product 4 stars because while it does what it claims, getting CO2 cannister refills can be a hassle as Sodastreams local dealer network is sparse. Also, while I understand their need to force you to buy refills from them to keep that revenue stream, there is really no need for this. There are plenty of local CO2 refill places that could refill these cannisters and make life a whole lot easier for the owners. Making this part proprietary is monopolistic at worst and greedy at best. For this product to really be as friendly and useful as it needs to be, Sodastream needs to drop the proprietary connector on the CO2 cannisters, get rid of the non-refill license and allow users to refill their cannisters at their local CO2 refiller of choice. After all, Sodastream still makes money off of the soda flavorings, soda bottle replacements and various parts that might break. There is no need to force the users to also endure proprietary cannisters that can only refilled by Sodastream. Only when the CO2 cannisters can be refilled by anyone will this product truly deserve 5 stars.

Weve been using this product for over three years now, nearly on a daily basis. That is probably the strongest review any product can receive. There are significant drawbacks to refilling canisters as others have noted. The attractiveness of this product, for us, is that when we have guests, we allow them to choose their soda flavor.

This is a bit odd. I had written a review on this when I first bought it on your site, but its no longer here. I know I wrote a review because a rep actually contacted me and made my order right. Maybe because it was purchased through your site but but shipped from Sodastream.. who knows!
I do not agree with other reviewers that this is a horrible company. As I mentioned, the product description differed from what I got. I posted a critical review and a soda stream rep contacted me, and ensured that I got the items that were missing as well as other goodies. So kudos!! I just dont know where that review went.
When you get this, you get everything you need to have a nice soda making machine. The syrups are blended with splenda, the water flavorings are pretty good, the system is easy to use.
But as other reviewers have stated, getting refills of the carbonator is a major pain! Willams Sonoma does the exchanges, but they generally have waiting lists of people wanting these refills. Good for Williams Sonoma, but if the shipment gets in mid week and you cant make it, youre out of luck. Ive had this product for about a year and have only been able to exchange through Williams Sonoma three times. I drink a lot of fizzy water-- at least 6 liters a day!
The problem with going through the Sodastream website are the shipping fees. The shipping fees are more than the cost of one exchange at Williams Sonoma. So knowing that, I refuse to pay the extra cash when I run out and my local W.S. doesnt have any in stock-- so I go without for two or three months. You can buy new carbonators at William Sonoma for about $30 and exchanges are about half that. Ive got about 6 empty cabonators right now and Im waiting for a call from Williams Sonoma to tell me they are in. Every time I get exchanges, I end up buying a new carbonator. Maybe this is why theyre so hard to exchange????

Sodastream needs to increase their retail presence because this is really a good idea and an easy to use product but a terrible business model. Fortunately, Ive discovered that Kohls also carries a lot of Sodastream products, but no carbonator exchanges. So its become easier for me to get my root beer or diet cola for much cheaper than through Sodastreams website. Its great to stock up when Kohls has their 20% discount on kitchen items, you can get soda syrups for about $3.00 on some good days. They just dont have all the variety that you can find on the website.
One more thing, the carbonators do not fill as much as they state they do. If the claim is 60 liters, youll get about 40 out of it if you use it as directed. I called the company to inquire about this and the rep basically agreed that if you wait until you hear the pop when making carbonated water, you will get about 2/3s of what the carbonator claims. So maybe the company is a little shady as you really do not get decent carbonation until you hear the pop. Still, when Ive got a cabinet full of carbonators and all the nice flavors I like, I love this machine. Otherwise, it sits in a cabinet next to empty carbonators gathering dust.

Just be sure you know what youre buying. I understand why people are frustrated and equally understand why people love this product. Its a good product, but its really difficult to like it as much as you initially do once you have to go hunting down things. If you go directly to Sodastream website for your machines needs, you will spend way too much money. It will take the economy out of it. Would you really be willing to pay twice the amount of money online for something that you can buy up the street for less? This hasnt stopped me from buying fizzy water at Costco in bulk. If I could get the carbonator just as easy, then Id be a much happier camper.

Hopefully, these carbonators will be more available in the near future. But after a year of having this product, it hasnt happened yet.

I read all the reviews of this product and I wondered should I bother since there were so many negative reviews. Well, I bought it and am I glad I did. The flavors are great and it is so easy to use. When I ordered the soda I placed the order on the internet Wednesday night about ten p.m. and Friday morning the delivery guy was outside my door. Talk about fast. No more carrying all those cases and recycling. The only thing I found is that the co2 cylinder lasted only about fifty bottles instead of the sixty they say but that is probably due to the fact I like a lot of carbonation in my soda, so I probably could have gotten more. And best of all I can change what flavor I want to drink that day instead of buying a whole case and having to drink the same flavor day after day. If you like soda believe me dont hesitate. Great Product

I have had sodastream for a few years. It was nearly impossible to return the empties. I had, at one time, 6 empties in my apt. because the courier never picked them up. Customer service was unresponsive to the issue. It took over a year to get someone out to pick up the empties, and the customer service rep. gave the courier incorrect information. I was not allowed to contact the courier to resolve the issues, and was never given solid delivery time frames. Since I live in a downtown high rise in a major metropolitan area, I cannot leave empties on my porch. The other issue I had was that the 110L canisters were not always full of gas. I have received more than one that was either not filled all the way, or empty upon arrival, compounding the logistics issue.

Sodastream has a nice product, but they really, really need to listen to the feedback on this and other forums. They can grow and expand their business and do well, but they have to fix the shipping/customer service issue first. Until then, I see this company as wasting lots of time and resources, and losing sales, because they cannot seem to get it right.

We have had the soda stream for about a year. Cylinder exchanges are easy - just place the order on-line and leave the cylinders outside. They are generally picked up/exchanged the next business day. The soda water tastes great and is so much more convenient than lugging cases of seltzer home from the store. I was concerned when I read some of the negative reviews but I have never had any problems or any second thoughts about this purchase.

My mom used to drink 2 cases per week of seltzer. OMG, the empty plastic bottles were out of control. We got her one 9 months ago and she loves it too!!! Ended up getting one for my brother for Christmas and he is as fond of it as we all are. This summer we went on vacation and took it with us. My in-laws liked it so much that they just got one too.

We havent tried the flavors or the soda mixes, but I do enjoy a splash of cranberry juice in a glass of seltzer - yummy.

We started using the sodestream a little over a year ago.
It is fun and simple to use.

I simply place an order (directly from Sodastream) for the CO2 refill, pop the empty on the porch and within a week it is picked up and replaced with a full one. There is an earlier review that says theyre difficult to find, but I live in the middle of nowhere and I have no issue with it. I have purchased an additional CO2 canister so Im never out of soda.

The syrup flavors are really good. I dont like the cola, as it is more like RC Cola than Coke. However the lemon-lime is very much like Sierra Mist, the Ice tea mixes are really great, and the Petes Choice is great too.

The best part is being able to have sparkling water without the sodium that you get with store bought seltzer. It also helps to not have empty bottles to lug around and return.

I use the Soda Stream machine to carbonate our well water, and its much better than Calistoga or any of the other designer carbonated waters! Mixing it with fruit juice, or a splash of wine, makes a really refreshing low cal, low sugar drink, and saves money. Weve mixed it with various flavor margarita/cosmo non-alcoholic mixers, and they make great italian type sodas. I havent ordered any of the flavors from the Soda Stream company, so I cant comment on those. Overall, I think its a great product!
