I really dont know how this movie made out to the big screen. I love Angelina but the plot is weak, action was great and the Russian language was terrible. Every time Angelina would say something on Russian i couldnt understand a word of it(and im Russian). Anyway Angie just for u 3 stars. Waist of time :( sorry

I just had to see this movie as I have been thoroughly impressed by Angelina Jolie and her humanitarian work around the world. Action movies are not my thing but I wanted to support her work. As Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; she gives a large part of her earnings to causes in the East, African nations and even in the Caribbean as she did for Haiti. She is concerned for the impoverished and needy children and as they benefit from her work, I wanted to be a part of that giving by paying to see her act.
May she continue to set this great example to other movie makers and celebrities worldwide.

If you can get past the first 45 minutes, then you should be set for fun flick to watch. The last half hour is my favorite part of the movie, as the plot really begins to gel and the action and story picks up.
Pros:
1.Angelina Jolie is very believable in this role. She tends to excel in these types of movies anyway. She plays the character with the right combination of compassionate heroine and stone cold killer.
2.Action scenes are well choreographed. They arent as ridiculously unbelievable as other movies like Wanted.
3. You leave the movie wanting to see so much more of Salt. They definitely set this one up for a sequel.
4. As mentioned before, the last hour gels so much better than the first. There is a rhythm to the movie that keeps you interested and you start connecting with Salt, wanting her to figure a mystery that has befallen her.
5. Whoever edited got the pacing down very well when the plot started to flirt with the idea that Salt could be a hero or a villain.
Cons:
1. Liev Schreiber. Hes coasting in another role once again. He does a good job, but once again just another boring character.
2. the first half hour is mess. The meat and potatoes of the plot are divulged in one 5 minute scene, and are relayed through flashback. A lot is thrown at you at the time, and then you spend the next half hour trying to piece together what was said.
3. People are chasing Salt at the beginning of the movie because some low ranking defector claims that she is a russian spy. Then the next half hour is devoted to some empty Chase Salt dead or alive subplot that seems to be too long or just have too much filler.
4. The plot, although it had a couple of really good twists, was lacking in substance. It was either that or the lack of enough dialogue in some parts of the movie.
5. Salt gets captured after doing some really REALLY bad, and then they lock her up in a standard cop car to transport her to detainment. COME ON.
The story itself is both a pro and con. The ideas behind it are interesting enough, but there are some aspect that you will find unfulfilled or not fleshed out enough. If you are looking for a quality action flick with some good twists, then this is a definite rental. If you are looking for substance over action, you may want to pass this one up.

If youve read the other reviews you know the basic plot. I just want to add that Angelina Jolie does an excellent job pulling off the action as does an equally fantastic job with the acting.
This movie is great fun and you care about the characters in this movie -- even the minor characters like Salts husband.
Plus, the movie has some great twists and will keep you guessing until the end of the movie. The movie ties up all loose ends at the end. As a footnote, when I saw this movie in the theater, the audience applauded at the end.
I highly recommend seeing this movie! :)

SALT
STARRING: Angelina Jolie, Liev Schreiber, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Olbrychski, August Diehl, Daniel Pearce and Hunt Block

Genre: Action / Thriller
Release Date: 23 July 2010

Sylvester Stallones new film The Expendables, showcases several prototypes of characters from the `one guy goes in and kills everyone, movies from the 80s. I agree with Stallone in feeling that there is a shortage of these types of films in general, let alone descent ones; the last good one I can remember offhand, being The Punisher (2004).
Angelina Jolie has impressed me and no doubt Stallone as well, with her latest film Salt, where she shows that it doesnt take a man to walk into a room and kill everyone; she can do it too. And man, does she do it; with skill, style and sex appeal. Short of maybe Charlize Theron, no other actress could have pulled this role off.
She is Evelyn Salt. Shes a spy for the CIA. Or is she? A dangerous looking Russian man walks himself into the CIA headquarters to report that a Russian Spy living in America, will assassinate the president of Russia, during his visit to the states. Ready for the kicker? The creepy Russian man leers at Evelyn from across the interview table and informs her that she is said Russian Spy / future assassin!
You can imagine the look of shock on the faces of her comrades, who are taping the interview from the next room; not to mention Evelyns. Sadly, thats all I can divulge to you. Trust me, theres so much more to tell, that its killing me not to - but youll have to see it for yourself! Twist and turn after twist and turn. Some you may see coming, others you probably will not. Either way - you will have a blast watching her run for her life; the filmmakers leaving us in limbo as to whether we should be rooting for her or not.
The film is over the top, sure. At times its even a tad irritating, having you sitting there going, `Oh, come on. A knife being snuck into the CIA headquarters; unnoticed information on CIA agents background checks; the Whitehouse being penetrated as easily as a few 17-year-olds sneaking into a frat party; leaps from helicopters and freeways and moving vehicles, and etc., etc. My personal favorite would be Jolie (to quote Woody, from Toy Story), falling with style, down an elevator shaft, passing several floors with each jump, and grabbing onto a ledge just right each time. This is something they should have had her do in the Lara Croft movies, as it was done in the videogames; but they didnt, so never mind.
Speaking of videogames, Salt could make a very interesting one indeed and I wouldnt be surprised if the movie is followed by a sequel. Videogames? Sequels? `One girl killin everyone? I know - sounds like it could be a too much, but the film works. Its very cleverly written and directed, and Jolies butt kicking action scenes are matched evenly throughout the film, with dramatic ones sharing brilliant acting from her two co-stars, Live Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Schreiber and Ejiofor both play CIA operatives that work with Salt, and are tasked with tracking her down when she has fled. Neither of them is entirely sure if they should trust her alleged innocence, as the film hurls them after her through suspenseful stimulated action chase scenes close to the flavor of those in The Fugitive and Enemy of the State.
Director Phillip Noyce and screenwriter Kurt Wimmer know this genre like the back of their hand and the film proves it. A list of their best achievements would be unrelenting; but a short version between the two of them could include Law Abiding Citizen, Street Kings, The Bone Collector, Patriot Games and The Saint.
In closing, having enjoyed the film a great deal, but also having pointed out how un-plausible some of the events were, I feel the need to defend it one last time. I can say that I have definitely seen action films that have pushed the envelope of believability a lot further than Salt, and offered us only phony acting in return to justify their means. At least most of the elements in this film could maybe happen; and the performances of the actors, only add believability to us finding those things being possible.

`Aha! I hear from the back of the theatre. He got it. Such a brilliantly twisted epic saga of overdramatized violence and emotion but alas - Average Joe, detective extraordinaire, got it. So is it really all that brilliant?
In its labyrinth of a plot, Salt, Phillip Noyces debut blockbuster (despite almost 40 years in the industry), guarantees its largely undemanding summer audience a mediocre action-flick experience and a feigned feeling of intellectual satisfaction. Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) decides to take on Chuck Norriss ass-kicking prerogative and use it to play a female version of the archetypical Russian super-spy which Hollywood loves to hate. However, for the viewer to leave the movie theatre shocked with his newfound acumen, Noyce turns the plot - already nihilistic in its indifference to a logical structure - on its head.
The spy, demonstrating typical bad-guy characteristics complete with an industry-standard unconvincing accent and an evil plot, becomes the protagonist. This reversal serves as the most interesting aspect to this otherwise unimpressive flick. It develops an internal conflict between the viewers natural tendency to support the intrepid protagonist with her luscious lips and violent endeavors, and the inherent guilt felt for supporting what is portrayed as an evil empire whose Cold War interests, albeit hidden, are very much part of its modern political agenda. This conflict reaches its zenith when Salts murder of the president of the United States wrests from the viewer the hope that Salt is on the side of the `good guys.
The confirmation of Salts identity as a Russian spy is but the beginning of a long, violent warren whose turns become increasingly expected as the beatings and shootings progress. The femme fatals addiction to unnecessarily convoluted circumstances mirrors the movies pseudo-robotic tendency to include just one more twist and just one more turn. What appears to be the final turn - the Dantesque everto-ex-machina - is not, and is simply an excuse for Angelina to keep choking guys with the chains that tie her hands (because who uses hand-cuffs anyways?) and making rocket launchers out of cleaning chemicals and an office table.
Even the action scene (I prefer the singular because the movie feels like one exhausting shoot-and-run marathon) which is so often the match that lights the fire of popularity of summertime flicks is lacking in classic misogynistic violence which has come to characterize these one-versus-world type movies. To balance this, perhaps, Noyce wisely decided to cast an attractive female character for the role, contrary to screenwriter Kurt Wimmers original intention. This made the unrealistic fighting seem slightly more bearable and original. Angelina seems to be one of the very few women in Hollywood who would be able to pull off such an intimidating feat. However, the choice of a female character for a conspicuously male role begs the question - would I still be watching this movie if it was a classic industry hero doing the ass-kicking? Probably not.
To the sound of silenced bullets and exploding buildings, Angelina Jolies character goes from good to bad and back again with the surreptitiousness of a cult film. And yet, the denouement, which takes the form of a head-to-head battle for the prevention of a nuclear holocaust and the destruction of the human race (sound familiar?), is quick to convince the impressionable viewer that it is only slightly better than the next summer hit in line. Confirming this, perhaps, is the happy-ending which, almost predictable in unpredictability, is a must for any self-respecting brainless blockbuster.

Salt is your run-of-the-mill summer action movie with a twisted story akin to The Bourne series or James Bond of old. Like those movies the action is over the top and crazy, guns blaze and sparks fly but the PG-13 rating spares us the blood and guts that should accompany such wicked projectiles. One scene has Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) killing a guy by ramming the jagged end of a broken bottle into his neck but this is left to your imagination since all we see is the motion and then the discarded bloody bottle after the fact. Am I the only one who prefers his action graphic and R-rated? Still Salt was highly likable and the liking goes beyond the beauty at the helm.
The plot of Salt is not easily summarized without offering up spoilers so I cannot go there. I will say however that it involve the CIA, a super-spy named Evelyn Salt, her fellow spy Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) and a plot involving Russia, North Korea and terrorism. Angelina Jolie does her thing as Evelyn Salt, with the action looking very much like she did the stunts herself (which she did). Speaking of stunts, unlike the Bourne series, the fighting and action in Salt was done extremely well. When Evelyn fought bigger guys she would use objects and moves that made sense for a smaller woman. I have grown tired of seeing small, slight women throwing roundhouses, jabs and fancy moves to drop big 300lb muscle men in action films. Salt takes guys out by kicks to the groin, trapping the knee, breaking bottles across their faces and choking them out with chains. If anything, this really impressed me with the action.
What I didnt like about the action was the tired, incorrect and convenient knockouts that occurred when people got beat up. Movies tend to lean on this to discard bad guys who they dont want to have the hero kill. The hero will punch baddies in the gut and step on their hand and they will lie on the ground knocked out no matter where they were hit. Salt did a good job on the choreography but guys were getting knocked out from subtle blows and it really bothered me that they took this route. Film quality fluctuates at times especially during the traffic scenes but it isnt enough to distract the viewer from the scenes that are playing out.
Chiwetel Ejiofor stars as Peabody and is a strong presence as he always - which leads me to wonder when he will headline his own picture. Salt starts out a bit uninteresting and scarily bland until 30 minutes in then it turns into a bullet train ride of action. Angelina is a Jack of all Trades in the acting profession having played the tender damsel and the hardcore action heroine. I believe that after Tomb Raider, Angie was bitten by the action bug and not only loves playing the femme fatales but does a damn good job at it too.
Grab Salt if you are an action fan!

I am not an action adventure film fan and watch few of them. However, Angelina Jolie interests me. When asked to play a Bond girl because of her great beauty, she replied that she was only interested in playing Bond. Bravo! She teams well with director Phillip Noyce in making riveting action sequences. He stages them with split second precision and she executes them flawlessly. Whenever stunt people take over, you simply cannot tell. It is seamless. She is also built right for the part. She does not have a delicate build. Her hands, arms, feet, and legs are believably those of someone who is honed to military like performance.
The plot is as convoluted as it always seems to be in these entertainments. It involves Russian moles in US intelligence and the USA suddenly believing she is one of these moles. This puts her on the run from US intelligence, the Secret Service and the police. On the run are the operative words and are really the jist of this film. She vaults from one edge of your seat situation to another. If you need something deeper, it is not here.

Salt is your typical junk-food summer action flick -- you know the kind: sit butt in chair, turn off brain, enjoy. Its fast-paced, action-packed cloak and dagger spy stuff, and unfortunately, youve seen it before many times in films like Mission Impossible 3 and the Bourne trilogy. These are the films that Salt most closely resembles. It was written by schlock auteur Kurt Wimmer, so that should give you heads-up.
Theres really nothing new here for Angelina Jolie, who has done this sort of spy/assassin role already in Wanted and Mr & Mrs Smith, so shes repeating stuff from her own repetoire. It is, however, quite enjoyable if youre in the mood for mindless action, fantastic stunt sequences, and seeing Jolie beat the stuffing out of cops and secret service agents. If you get hung up on logic gaps, impossibly-timed events, and other WTF moments, you will not like this movie.
Things I learned from this movie:
- the CIA has a neural scan machine that can tell if youre lying during an interrogation and everyone trusts it. You dont need to be hooked up to electrodes, or even be in the same room.
- you can make a mean concussive grenade launcher from some table legs, janitorial cleaning supplies, and a fire extinguisher
- CIA agents get vital intel via text messaging
- they are also lousy shots.. some of them have to close one eye and wince to aim
- the White House has lousy security, crappy doors that are easily breached, and a dire shortage of surveillance cameras
- the hero will throw away an assault rifle with at least 2 full magazines and instead square off against the main villain with a single hand-gun
- computers for launching nuclear weapons have a super-LOOOONG progress bar, just long enough to allow the hero and villain to duke it out one-on-one in hand-to-hand combat, and then be stopped at 99% by yanking out the cord
- spider venom is overused as a plot device
The list goes on, but I wont spoil your fun. Its corny, over-the-top unbelievable stuff that can only come from Wimmer (who is responsible for the awful awful Ultraviolet). His writing lacks the intelligence and sophistication of other spy films already mentioned. There is a twist and turn along the way in the plot so if youre not paying attention, you might get confused as to who is the good guy and whos bad. But there are plenty of clues that this is quite obvious by the time the real villain is revealed. The same sort of double-cross/plot twist is found in Wanted and MI:3, so were in fairly predictable territory.
The movie ends abruptly at the 90 minute mark. I was surprised when the screen went black and the credits started rolling, expecting the film to go on for perhaps another 30 minutes. So, yes, there will be a Salt 2.
Three stars for a totally average movie. Its fun, stupid, junk-food summer fare.

This film trades off between action and dark drama. Angelina is a mystery woman until the end and redeems the film and its almost one dimensional story line with action sequences that are first rate. Most of the characters in this film are thinly developed, with some rare exceptions, due to the continual action of this film not allowing much character development. Angelina shows little or no emotion throughout the film due to her character/role. For fans of Angelina and action films, you will like this. This film is an Angelina Jolie show from beginning to end.

Director Philip Noyce and star Angelina Jolie, the pair who gave us a thriller The Bone Collector back in 1999, team up again for Salt, action thriller about Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent on the run, accused of being a Russian spy. To make my review short and not to spoil anything about the film, I can only say is that the fast-paced and action-packed thriller, penned by Kurt Wimmer (The Recruit), keeps you guessing until the end, though you may notice lots of plot holes when you leave the theater, or even before.
This is not to say the film is bad. Salt delivers goods with Angelina Jolie as the titular character, who remains a mystery from the very start (the film begins with a sequence set in North Korea, slightly reminiscent of one James Bond film). In fact some parts of the film remind us of James Bond or Jason Bourne films, but Jolie lends energy (if not credibility) to the convoluted storyline, which looks sometimes dated with the heroines back story and these inevitable villains. Or maybe we should call it old-fashioned.
Salt is mindless fun with lots of actions. The action set-pieces including chases and shoot-outs are all well-done though some of them stretch credibility to the point where Salt looks almost superhuman (never afraid of ricocheting bullets). But Bond and Bourne are also superhuman, so why not Evelyn Salt?

I am NOT reviewing the DVD. Just the movies unless otherwise stated.
Please note that the rating above might not accurately reflect my thoughts, you will see a rating sentence at the end of the review.
Im just gonna tell you right now the reviews I do today will be shorter than usual. Well, Salt was advertised as A Russian Spy someone is framing me extreme cliche. I love cliches, I love cheese, and if corn can be done right I love it. I watch Godzilla ALL THE TIME. (I promise there will be some Godzilla reviews by the end of October, most likely the original or G vs. Megagirus.) Well...even if I would spoil the movie for you, I dont think I would be able to. But I can tell you, they try there hands at some sort of a twist. But dont trust me, because this movie was very confusing.
And not the good confusing like Inception, more like the bad confusing, something that the more you pay attention the less you understand. Watch a few Nostalgic Critic episodes youll understand. Thats my main complaint, is that the whole movie is founded on a hole. No matter how much good stuff you put in the movie, no matter how much of it nor how good, WATER GO DOWN THE HOLE!!!! (Sorry, I just got finished watching Nostalgic Critics Animaniacs tribute.) Now we talk about the action. Usually in a good action movie, all you need is jumping and explosions. In a great action movie, you get jumping, explosions and muscles. In a fantastic action movie, you get jumping, punching, explosions, muscles, guns, everything. In a MASTERPIECE, you have all that plus a fantastic plot to back it up. This...was mediocre. Jumping, that is it.
Now, aside from that, the real part where this movie makes up for all the faults 80% is in the characters. Why only 80? Because it doesnt make it better, it just off-sets. They are extremely well developed and have some cliched yet awesome and intriguing personalities. Just so fun to watch them talk and interact with the environment around them. And that makes the casting not only Angelina, but everybody in the cast and directing chairs extremely well performed. But a bad script is a bad script. The only thing about the directing I think could have been improved would be to step in and add a little more of the good stuff. The director has a lot of experience but not in the greatest stuff, so I think some constructive criticism could be useful.
Salt was very good, but it needed pepper. But again, the real reason to see this movie is the characters, I think if we buy a ticket to support anybody, it would be to support the actors. What a fantastic cast. But I dont think Ill buy it on Blu-Ray/DVD.
Well, for the characters alone I would rate it 4.5, but because of its faults, it draws it down ALL THE WAY to 3.4/5

My first thought before ever even reading reviews for salt was that it looked dumb, so I was very skeptical about going to see it, but when I walked out of the theater I was very impressed!
The movie starts out with the U.S. interrogating a Russian who claims that a russian spy planted in the U.S. will assassinate the Russian president and that the spy name is Evelyn Salt which is the name of the CIA officer questioning him. Is she the spy or is she being set up? Watch the movie to find out!
If I could give this movie a 3.5 stars I would, because it was right on the edge of a 4 star movie! But I have to give it a three stars. I would still recommend going to see this movie because its a good action thriller!

Salt is a film that was bashed by film critics, because its an action film. Once again however, this action film is not as bad as the critics say it is.
The basic plot for Salt is focused on character Evelyn Salt (Angelina Jolie) who is a CIA agent. One day while interrogating a Russian defector, he tells her that a person by the name of Salt is going to assassinate the Russian president. In hearing this, the CIA decides to keep Salt in the interrogation room, to ask her some questions. She decides to run away which begs the question, is she a spy?
Angelina Jolie is the kind of actor where if she has a good script to follow like Changeling directed by Clint Eastwood, she is very good. Salt has a good plot, in which Angelina shines.
