Have been using my X36 joystick and throttle for the past 10 years for flightsim and other aviation related games. Its good to see that Saitek kept the solid feel of the X36 in the X52 pro with some extra switches and controls. Overall I am very happy with the X52 pro. I considered the X65 but the cost changed my mind as I already have the Saitek yoke, throttle and rudder pedals. The only issue I have with the X52 pro is when using the twist rudder and trying to bank with the joystick it jams the stick a little when using both.

The Saitek X52 Pro Flight System is beautiful! Every time I look at my X52 Pro, I think to myself that I wish I had more games and more time to play with these!

Admittedly, I have only used the Saitek X52 Pro to play HAWX, so I havent had a wide-variety of testing to put behind this review. I own the Saitek X45 HOTAS and briefly owned the X52 HOTAS, only to return them within a week to buy the Pro version. The X45 HOTAS always bothered me because the action was too stiff and I had issues with keeping the base on my desk while manuevering the stick around. I also had issues sometimes with center/deadzones on the sticks. The X52 just felt CHEAP, which is why I returned it.

The X52 Pro however, is awesome! The build quality is top notch. The buttons have a nice tactile feel to them. The action is smooth and has just the right amount of tension behind it. I *do* plan on playing more HAWX (great game!) along with other games (X-Plane, DCS: Blackhawk and IL-2-Sturmovik). I wont comment on the software since I dont remember what my impressions were when I played with it. Sadly, this stick has been collecting dust for little more than a year since my job has kept me busy working out of town. I used this with Vista, but now Im running Windows 7. I plan on installing drivers and playing with this again soon!

Id totally recommend the Saitek X52 Pro to friends, or anybody else who wants a nice HOTAS system, but doesnt want to spend the money on full-fledged simulation equipment.

I am very pleased with my new toy. This joystick is very nice. I am impressed with the overall finishing and how it works. I am a little worried about the trigger on the base of the stick handle. It seems that it will stop working.
I found it difficult to program it using the Saitek software. The software that comes in the CD did not worked, but I was able to download it from the web. I am still trying to understand how ca I program it. The manual seems to me not to be very user-friendly.
But my overall opinion is that it was a good acquisition.

I really enjoy the combination set. While I am not a very techy person I will just give you my personal feelings and judgment based on use and not specs. The programming for me was hard to learn and use. Once I read the directions about 6 times I think I have it down now.
My first set came in damaged and could not use the joy stick. your site did a great job taking care of the problem, sent me a new set immediately, then I sent the defective set back.
Over all feel is smooth and translates to the controls on the screen with equal sensitivity and precision. I used to have a force feedback joystick from Saitek and I do miss that feedback from the stick. Still, this set is so good I am getting used to it very quickly.
I have one other control that I am not familiar with called the mouse button on the throttle control handle. This tiny joystick will take the place of the mouse to move your viewpoint around and get the big picture while flying and in combat. It is not intuitive and needs some practice to use. Again the more I use it the better I get.
I only wish there were more profiles I can download to use the stick to its full potential, I just have to keep looking and set some of the profiles myself.
I have a question for anyone out there. What is the i button on the throttle. When it is pressed the hat button on the joystick blinks. I could not find any info on the use of this button.

Thanks for reading my thoughts on the Saitek X52 Pro Joystick throttle

Ive had the stick for eight months now. The look and feel are excellent. Theyve added an additional spring to the stick since the x45 which improves handling. The MFD is a real plus if your game supports it. My main use is for MS FlightSim X which it works great for. Being able to change the colors of the various buttons also helps categorize the use you have set for them. And the programmable options for the buttons are top notch.

My main issue with the stick is reliability. The buttons and hats on the stick have now stopped working. (Throttle works fine). Two emails to tech support over the past week have gone without response. I had a Saitek X45 which I replaced with this because it also failed (though after much longer use than the eight months with this one). So Ive temporarily fallen back to CH Flightstick that Ive owned for 15 years and is reliable as ever.

So, in a nut shell...while the stick worked, it was a joy. Best stick Ive ever used. But how long it will perform that way is a roll of the dice IMO. Your mileage may vary.

I have read the past reviews and in the face of alot of negative ones I decided to buy the Saitek X52 Pro. I recieved this controller and set it up exactly as specified in the instructions and I learned it was not plug and play. I thought it was because the instructions said it was. After much fiddling around I realized I had a defective model and had to send it back. your site was exceptional about helping me to obtain a new one for replacment and I plugged the replacement in and VOILA!!! It works and works like a charm and you can set it up to just play but this is a complex piece of electronics and programming, you can go into control panel and the profile editor and completely custom tailor this fine piece of work. I have noticed that my landings are so much softer, I was getting an avg of -200fpm in the big jets and now in the 744 and 777 I get about -50fpm to -100 fpm. Now there is alot more to a landing than the controller but all things being equal this controller was the answer for me.

Not all electronics will work the first time you plug them in, its just the nature of the beast. You will be pleased with this product if you allow your patience and understanding to be ruler. I got mine replaced and I am a very happy customer and will look forward to buying Saiteks rudder pedals soon.

Very impressed with this joystick. Takes a little while to get comfortable with but once you get used to it youll love it. Only major complaint is there are no detailed instructions on how to use ALL of the joysticks features, nor a tutorial. I have not found anything like this as of yet. Also the buttons are arranged in such a manner that it can be difficult while in a dogfight to hit the button you want. Its easy to hit every other button but the one you actually want to press.

The rudder twist feature was something I had not experienced before and found it difficult to work with at first. Now that I have mastered it I would say your better off having it than not.

Overall very happy with this joystick. Lack of force feedback is probably a good thing. Force feedback makes you feel more like your in the game with the exception that you have a more difficult time aiming at your target. (I have had a Logitech Wingman Force for nearly a decade)

I had an old Logitech Wingman Strike Force 3D and used it for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004. The airplanes were all over the place and it was very difficult to control things. After plugging the new Saitek X52 Pro Flight system, it made all the difference in the world. Very smooth and in control. I dont regret it a bit.

I will say one thing, after placing my order for this item, i couldnt wait to get it. I have had many other joysticks in the past, from Logitech to Thrust Master, and this Saitek X52 PRO, is AWESOME!!! I will say this though, the joystick it self is kinda big, so it took me some time to get use to it.. but now that i am use to it.. SWEET!!! button are well placed, and quite a bit of buttons to program, so i hardly even touch my keyboard when playing X-Plane 9 or any other flight simulation game.
If you have had bad luck with many other joysticks, I give this one a 5 star, definitely recommend this one.
Shipping from your site, was awesome, that was very quick, order it on Friday got it on Tuesday.. no complaints there, awesome service.
Oh speaking of which, if you like flight simulation games, get X-Plane 9, the graphics is WICKED!!! i am not kidding you, real-time weather which gets downloaded from the net into the game, AWESOME.
Also, for me, when playing X-Plane, i did not install the software for Saitek, cause the software disable the some of the button in the game, so to have all the buttons available to you when playing X-Plane 9, just let Windows Vista use the default drivers and thats it, also if you update to the latest drivers it will also disable those buttons, kinda sucks cause its always good to have the latest drivers. But if you are like me, dont update the drivers, just ignore them.

This is a very nice combo. I came from using a single stick with a built in throttle. I had to set it on my lap to get the best angle for me. But this is great now that I can wet the suction cups and set them on my roll out keyboard drawer. Comparing it to my old stick the only thing that is bad is that it seems to have a bigger dead spot from going from the middle of the stick to the outer part and just getting use to the massive amount of buttons and where they are placed. I dont play any fancy flight sim games just Star Wars Galaxies and having all sorts of buttons on the throttle make it allot easier than having to reach for the keyboard. The only thing that I dont really like is that its not force feedback.

I purchased this product over six months ago. As far as a simulation controller goes, this product takes the cake. The controller itself is very rugged and solidly constructed. Even after the joystick took a shortfall, its works perfectly.

Breakdown: Buttons, solid feel and good response. The LEDs are customizable so you can set the intensity and color of the lights - that is a neat feature. The primary POV (silver) is showing some minor slop in response but that is to be expected with some good use. I have no worries that the product is going to fail on me. The included throttle is a dream. The friction setup is a little weak but the slider itself gives a good, positive feed-back which is what you expect when you roll on a lot of thrust. The MFD is customizable to a degree. With the correct plug-ins, it can display a wide range of information and the its easily accessible and intuitive to use. The scrolling wheels located under the MFD are a bit clumsy and when entering frequencies, can be a hassle. The main issue between the stick and throttle units is the connection. The system utilizes a corded port connection with several small pins inside of the barrel. This connection will get weak over time and you frequently have to ensure the cord is seated between both units to get a good working setup.

The software: To use this stick as a basic setup is a breeze. But to really utilize the powerful software takes lots of time and some advanced knowledge of working with programming. At times the Saitek interface was more of a hassle than a bonus so often times I never activated it. Sometimes it would clear profiles erroneously or get in the way of the scripting interface to operate the MFD. Unless your serious about have all the modes activated and running smoothly, the programming feature is pretty frustrating.

All around precise and great stick despite the minor short comings.

It is a very good system with plenty of controls. Some of the controls require time to learn how to set the programs. The negative aspect is that sometimes when it is plugged into the usb port it causes the computer to lock and all icons to flicker and not function properly. I will have to call Saitek to try to find a fix to the problem. I have 2 of these units and both did the same lock up on 2 different computers.

I bought this joystick for a friend in Brazil in dec of 2006. He plays frequently and never had a problem.
It was love at first sight. I didnt want to give him the first unit and I couldnt buy myself one at that time, however I finally bought mine.
Installation in Windows XP was easy and painless.

Didnt have a single problem, I downloaded the newest driver and programing software from Saitek (I didnt use the CD). Installed them, plugged the Joystick and all worked.

I think that the customizable lights (thee options) in each button are very neat. I have mine to play falcon AF, which has lots of different functions and the different colors help me remember the functions of the buttons.

    -very customizable
    -feels like well built
-a friend has used it for a long time and never had problems. I have mine for 2 weekends and no problem whatsoever.
    -has a 2 year warranty

-Didnt find any so far. I will update this with time.

Had Hotas before this, THis stick combo is awesome! Adjustable led lights, adjustable MFD on the throttle, great centering spring...tons of programmable buttons.....

And the best feature---- mounting screw holes.... I bought 2- 3 1/2 inch screws with wingnuts... drilled the holes in my desk... and have absolutly no sliding/toppling of my sticks during those hairy High-G close combats!

Ive used Saitek joysticks for years now and I know theyre good, reliable gear. Last year, Mad Catz bought Saitek which struck me with terror: quality wise, the two brands have been polar opposites. But with hope in my heart I bought the x52 Pro to feed my flight sim addiction.

When I got it out of the box it worked great, and was fun to use. The action on it is very smooth, and the buttons are convenient (minor learning curve in getting myself to use the buttons on the stick instead of the keyboard commands Im familiar with). It went downhill for me on day two, though.

Those of you looking at this stick have probably played Flight Simulator X, and know that the trigger is the brakes. Pretty critical on landing. On day two, my trigger stopped responding. I learned this on landing, and had a fun little freak out moment. After diagnosing the problem and being a do-it-yourselfer, I opened up the case and found that the trigger wasnt pushing back far enough to hit the switch properly. I wedged in a bit of paper which solved it, permanently. Not something anyone should have to do though.

Hopefully, that issue was just my particular stick. If thats indicative of the quality otherwise, though, then thats cause for a lot of concern.

I ordered the Pro with some reluctance having owned the original X-52. My brother also had one of the originals that lasted barely over a year. The spring tension was way too light with the original and there is a problem with the throttle losing calibration and that is exactly what happened to mine and my brothers.

After a couple of good recommendations from some guys I fly with online I decided to go ahead and get the X52 Pro. I must say that I am very pleased with it so far. The spring tesnion is much better (has dual springs) and the optical pots make for much smoother movement in game. It is also more ruggedly built than the original.

-Has Vista 64 bit Programming software available
-Can customize the LED colors (does not include the MFD)
    -Has better MFD Options
    -Sturdier with better spring tension
-Has a module that allows control of the radio stack in FSX with MFD Rotaries
-Has a nicer task bar interface
-Slider is 100x better than the original which was crap would never calibrate

-The programming software is not as intuive as previous versions. It is not visual and you cannot click a button on the stick and have it be selected in the programming software as before.
-Rotaries are a bit tough to move precisely. Takes more force.
-The rotary wheels at the MFD only work with the FSX Mod. Cant seem to get them to work in anything else.
-Throttle detents are a bit overdone if you are trying to make fine adjustments at 10% 20% it can be a bit tough at times. This is even the the friction backed off all of the way.
-Still cant do a calibrate function. Is supposed to be self calibrating and you have to go into the control panel and move every axis through its full range of motion 3 times to make sure it does. I have had the throttle lose cal 1 time during a game.

    Overall I gave it a 4 star. Doesnt rate a 5 and 4 1/2 isnt an option.

I would recommend this stick from what I have seen so far. I have been using it regularly for a little over a month now.

Overall, the X52 pro is very good, but the main spring could be a little more stiff, it cant be adjusted. The bad news is the MFD is very hard to get working an keep working in Vista 64 bit. If it initially works, do not uninstall FSX or it may never work again. Saitek does not have a solution on their forum. Many users have come up with solutions that work for them, but not in all cases. It should be Saiteks job to make it work correctly.
