This is a wise investment if you often take digital photographs with a camera mounted to a tripod. By remotely causing a digital camera to take a long exposure, you all but eliminate any chance of "camera shake" due to pressing the digital camera's built-in shutter button. This may be especially useful for nighttime, fireworks, cityscape or panorama photography.

I just received this item today, did quite a bit of testing (about 200 shots) and what a joy it is. It works perfectly as advertised, very responsive, ergonomically fits well in the hand and very easy to use. Construction of the item is nice and solid and the cord has a nice thickness to it. It is very easy to connect (if you are familiar with your camera), even in low light conditions and the screw in cap is nice so you do not have to worry about it falling out. I use a D200, lost my MC-30 and thought I would give this a try on a whim...I am so happy I got this over the MC-30. For less than ¼ of the price for the MC-30, this is a steal and I highly recommend it for both novices and professionals (if youre a pro, get 2 in case 1 gets lost or somehow broken in the field).

For those looking for a very basic remote release and the accompanying savings, this is a great deal. Upon opening the package, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of construction. The fit of the two piece housing is tight, with no squeaks. The button feels sturdy, and its easy to differentiate between its two positions. When I ordered the unit, I was somewhat skeptical about the fit of the connector- turns out its fantastic.
As others have said, do not plan to attach the connector in very low light conditions, or in a hurry, as the installation process is a little bit fiddly, at least on a D200. However, I blame this entirely on where Nikon placed the socket on the body, not the aftermarket accessory manufacturers who have to work with that placement.

I bought this item for my Nikon D200. I was pleasantly surprised at the good quality of materials and workmanship and the actual performance in real life situations. The threaded connector for the camera end is precision-machined, the wire is sturdy and the fit and finish of the handle is perfect. As advertised, pressing the button half-way makes the camera focus, and pressing all the way releases the shutter. I have not used the bulb function, but it has one. It can be used in a dark studio because the handle has anti-slip bumps on the site opposite the shutter release button. Altogether an amazing deal when compared to the Nikon equivalent that sales for $61 or so.

Its working fine. The only issue I found is that the cord size is too small. I was expected it to be bigger.

FIRST LET ME SAY THE PRODUCT WORKS. NEXT I HAVE BEEN USING IT FOR ABOUT 7 WEEKS. I ALSO WANTED TO MAKE THE CABLE SHORTER SO I TOOK IT APART SO THAT I COULD SHORTEN THE CORD. BECAUSE I HAD TO TAKE THE HANDLE APART I WAS ABLE TO SEE HOW THE INSIDE OF THE PRODUCT WAS MADE. THE STRUCTURE OF THE PRODUCT IS GOOD AND SHOULD GIVE YOU MANY YEARS OF SERVICE. ART D

This is probably good, when you have all the time in the world to set it up and if you have enough light around, when you set it up. If you like taking night-shots, make sure you set it up before you setup your tripod, cuz those connector pins on the camera are so tiny and it gets tough to get it right the first time. I would recommend a wireless shutter release. Costs more, but hassle free for sure!

Ive used this item about a dozen times now and it seems to work very well. The button is a little touchy when you half press to get focus on Auto focus, but its not a huge problem.
I will update if necessary as I use it more.
