Im a pokemon fan and even though this is a remake of the old Gold version it is much better. More pokemon in the game. The lead pokemon in your party follows you in the game. Most awsome, you get a gadget with the game called a Pokewalker. You can transfer pokemon to it and take anywhere with doing the day. Not only you get excercise but, you pokemon gains experience. The down side is it only levels up once per trip. I would definetly buy this product.

Great game and graphics. I love how you can walk around with one of your Pokemon. Ton of fun and if you like the original one you love this one as well. You get to choose your gender female or male. New features and story elements have been added that were not in the original which is gold version for the gameboy color.

I have to say when I first opened this product I was excited. It was the best Pokemon game I have ever seen compared to the Pokemon gold that I had for gameboy many years ago. There are a lot of new features, such as able to go back to Kanto which was a great plus to the game and able to catch a lot more legendary Pokemon then other games. The beginning wasnt so great training the Pokemon but once you started to get into the game you cant stop playing it. I did have a little hold back about the elite four because it was very tough to deal with because of the amount of trainers while still in Johto. There arent enough to raise your Pokemons level high enough but that still gives a great challenge to the game. This game is definitely about strategy, and how patient you can be. I would recommend this product for at least 10 years or older. I am 15 years old but I have to say Pokemon is one of my favorites. Long live Pokemon!

The designs great, and its an enjoyable breath of fresh air on the original Gold (or so I think). What else is there to say about it? Its a Pokemon game.

I bought this game pretty much entirely because I used to play Gold and Silver back in the days of Game Boy Color. My girlfriend bought the SoulSilver version, and its been great times for both of us so far. This is a great recreation and enhancement of the original Pokemon Gold game. If you didnt like that one, this probably isnt for you. That being said, if you did like it, youre also in for some additional fun from there - with the addition of new Pokemon, new areas, multi-battles, DS Wireless, online play (if you can find a WEP-encrypted wireless connection, that is), and more, its a blast. If youre used to the old Game Boy Color graphics like I was, the graphics will totally blow you away too.
One of the things I dig the most about the game is actually the cheesy little peripheral included with it: the Pokewalker. Its a pedometer that you can load one of your Pokemon into, and it gains experience and Watts as you walk. The more you use it, the more little paths you uncover, and the more you can find on it. I think its a cool way to level up a Pokemon while Im living my real life, especially for Pokemon like Magikarp or Ditto that can be somewhat tougher to level up on their own. The device surprised me by how inconspicuous it can be: sure, its shaped like a Pokeball, but its tiny and you can mute it and stick it in your pocket, and voila! Having a pedometer is also kind of a neat way to encourage a little extra exercise, or appease your morbid curiosity about how many steps you take at work. You can also play on the Pokewalker a little bit and either find items or catch other Pokemon, which then transfer back into your game. Pretty sweet stuff!
My least favorite thing about the game is that I cant find a suitable wireless connection to play on WiFi. I have a DSi, and it can connect to pretty much any wireless network you need it to for its own internet purposes, but it HAS to be a WEP-encrypted connection for any games to work. It seems short-sighted of Nintendo to design games that rely on what is very quickly becoming outdated internet protocol. Long story short, some McDonalds or libraries may have the connection you need, it seems none in Flint do. There are ways around this, and Im looking into this - theres apparently a USB Bluetooth adapter that can do the job, but either way, its pretty challenging. Of course, many home routers can be switched between WEP and WPA, I just happen to have one of the few that cant.
Long story short, if you like any of the previous Pokemon games, buy this one. Its a blast. Its also very different from the other Generation IV games, i.e. Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, so dont worry if you have any of those - this is still a fun investment.

As a 19-year-old who grew up playing the original Pokemon games, I must say that Heart Gold and Soul Silver are a must have for Pokemon fans. With updated graphics, hundreds of new Pokemon, and new story lines, this game is one of the best that I have played yet. Friends of mine find that this game, along with Soul Silver, are the best entertaining Pokemon games available.

I havent played a Pokemon game since Red & Blue came out; for a trip down memory lane I decided to buy this new updated version for my DS. Overall its very fun, a lot of great updates since the Game Boy days, but still retains enough of the original charm to remain pleasing to those of us who remember the originals. I definitely recommend it! Tons of fun and keeps me entertained.

I bought this for my younger sister as a gift. She said it was better and longer than perl and diamond (spelling)
It also came with a pokeball which lets you bring 1 pokemon with you wherever you go. And you get items when you walk places. And some other stuff that i dont know but she said it was fun and shes still playing it!

I know most games have flaws... but I gotta say, this is one game that has hardly any. The original gold and silver were amazing, and I dont think any GBC games could ever compete with them... and for now, few ds games can compete with Heart Gold. Heres why (notice, if you dont like pokemon some of this may not make since to you)
First up, the graphics are amazing. The 3d features of the Ds were really utilized here. The colors are rich, and if you stand near water you can hear it sloshing on the shore or waterfalls roaring, and if you run up metal stairways you actually here the clink clank noise. Raikou, Suicune, And Entei have their own unique themes, and Ho-oh and Lugia have amazing themes. Also, the events for Ho-oh in this game and lugia in soul silver are amazing... I cant begin to describe them. Notice- in heart gold lugia does not have an event, and soul silver Ho-oh does not. They are still catchable after you defeat the champion and clear certain events, but there will not be a cutscene and they will be level 70.
Several gyms have been majorly redesgined, and the fact pokemon walk behind you is cool too. Sinnoh pokemon are found here and there, and hoenn pokemon. You can get kyogre in heart gold, and get groudon in soul silver. If you trade the other one and have both in the same game, rayquaza is obtainable.
Pros-
Graphics are amazing
Events make the game worth playing
Pokeathelon
Lots of legendaries
Pokemon walk behind you
Pokewalker
Cons-
Red is extremely difficult, and most post game events require you beat him.
If you get mewtwo you are nearly unbeatable.
Doesnt have the same classic feel as gold and silver... more like crystal.
Some events require trading.
Very hard to catch some pokemon without masterballs.
All in all, most the bad things arent enough to make this game not worth buying. If you get this, dont get soul silver, or vice versa, cause they are close to the same game. I hope I helped. If you dont like pokemon games that are basically going around, battling, training, and catching pokemon, then dont buy this game. But ultimately, its similar to gold and silver... missing that classic feel but oh well! Its worth the buy.

I got into Pokemon as an adult (when I was a kid I thought it was the nerdiest thing ever, though!), so I havent played all of the games. But Ive played Fire Red, Pearl, and Platinum. The graphics were great and I loved some of the new features. You can now do a lot more with the touch screen on your DS than you could in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. (Such as save the game, access your items). And your partys first pokemon follows you around, which is pretty adorable. You can turn around and talk to her and see if shes happy. :) The best part about this game is that it has two worlds in one - so instead of beating 8 gym leaders and the elite 4, you beat those, but then ANOTHER 8 gym leaders and the elite 4 again - only in the second map, the gym leaders are a LOT tougher, and the elite 4s levels go up significantly for your second go-around. You can also rematch the gym leaders from the previous map once youve beaten the Elite 4 the first time around (either read an online walk-through to figure out how to do that or go back and talk to each of the gym leaders and theyll explain how to set up the rematch).
All in all, definitely worth it, if for nothing else than the improved gameplay!

Great for Pokemon fans anywhere, Heart Gold is part of the latest installment in the pokemon video game series. It features an easier way to train or breed your pokemon with items they can hold (which were actually introduced in diamond/pearl). The menus have been streamlined from diamond/pearl, incorporating the touch screen more and reducing some of the annoying lag that was present with the touch screen in the earlier games. A few pokemon movesets have also been changed, but thats only important if youre a hardcore player (and youll want this game no matter what I say). Beyond these changes, this game is little more than a remake of Pokemon Gold/Silver for the gameboy - plus a few more characters.

I gotta say as pokemon games go this one is above average, its the same old pokemon that weve grown to love but a little more tedious is the beginning compared to a few of the other versions and the save times are extremely long compared to some of the older games. Fret not! for this is indeed everything youve come to love and expect from all previous versions, the gold edition has been beautifully remastered to all its former glory and it has an added bonus; THE POKEWALKER. Now when i heard of this thing i scoffed and said most players would just toss this aside and not even bother with it but Ive eaten my words and i gotta say the pokewalker is one of the most creative things Ive seen in years. You simply transfer a pokemon from your pc into this wonderful little device and go for a stroll, during your walk you accumulate points or watts and can use these to catch all new pokemon or find rare items, when youre done just transfer the pokemon back to your ds and voila! I dont think a day has gone by since Ive gotten this game that i havent wanted to walk my favorite pokemon if you arent gonna buy this for the game buy it for the pokewalker!

Like the title of this review says, this is the best Pokemon game to date (along with Soulsilver). I prefer, Heartgold over Soulsilver because it has Ho-Oh, but thats just me. There is so many things about this game that make it awesome:
PLOT:
You play as a kid in the land of Johto. Your quest is to go through Johto, collecting the 8 gym badges and defeating the elite four. If that wasnt good enough, afterwards you get to go to a whole new land... Kanto! Its two Pokemon regions in one game.
GAMEPLAY:
1. Your Pokemon follow you!
In Heartgold and Soulsilver, the Pokemon in the first slot of your party walks with you wherever you go! This is an exciting aspect of the game that hasnt been a part of Pokemon games since Pokemon Yellow about 12 years ago (and only then only Pikachu could follow you, when in this game all 493 Pokemon follow you).
2. Cool Storyline
In Heartgold and Soulsilver, collecting 8 gym battles and defeating the elite four is not the ONLY thing you do. You also meet friends and stop a villianous gang named Team Rocket!
3. EPIC, EPIC music!
Some of the music that plays in this game is so epic! Certain parts of this game have music so cool, I hop on Youtube to listen to it when Im not playing the game. Some epic music in the game is:
Reds Battle theme
Kanto Gym Leader battle
Kanto wild battle
and more!
GRAPHICS:
Ill admit, these are not the best grpahics on the market! There are many other DS games with better graphics then Heartogld and Soulsilver, but if you are a Pokemon fan, you will know what I am saying when I say that these are the best POKEMON graphics to date on any handheld system!
ACCESSORIES:
1. Pokewalker!
This little gadget is a pedometer shaped like a Pokeball. You can wirlessly download one of the Pokemon you catch into this thing and walk around, making that Pokemons level and happiness go up (put only one level at a time. Youll have to take him out and put him back in to get him up another level). You can also find items and catch Pokemon on the Pokewalker.
NOTE TO SERIOUS PLAYERS! TO ALL OF YOU THAT WANT ROUGHLY 20 RARE CANDIES A WEEK, HERE IS A TIP! UNLOCK THE SINNOH FIELD POKEWALKER ROUTE AND WALK 5000 STEPS A DAY (AN EASY AMOUNT) AND THEN SEARCH FOR RARE CANDIES! I GET 3 A DAY AND 21 A WEEK! IT IS 100% THE QUICKEST WAY TO GET RARE CANDIES! TRY IT WHEN YOU UNLOCK SINNOH FIELD!
These things, (and much more) make Pokemon Heartgold version a must-get game! It has given me hours and hours of enjoyment!
MY HEARTGOLD POKEMON TEAM: (I train 9 instead of the usual 6, switiching them out every now and then)
1. Feraligatr LV60
2. Arbok LV60
3. Togekiss LV60
4. Snorlax LV60
5. Dusknoir LV60
6. Gliscor LV60
