We started with the Melissa & Doug Vehicle Chunky set - and after my son being so in love with it, we had to get a few more.

This one is SOOO FUN! As he puts the puzzle pieces in, Ill tell him what the animal is and what noises they make and he tries to repeat (for now at least, when I say Cow, he doesnt say mama). Ha!

The puzzle is very sturdy. My son likes to peel off the pictures or rip up the pieces of his previous puzzles, with this - he hasnt succeeded.

What I like about this is that the picture is on the board so he just has to match the shape on the puzzle piece and stick it to the board. Its helping him figure out sizes/shapes and fits. I really like this.

As for complaints of previous reviewers: I dont expect this toy to be like the ones of olden days where they are hand painted and hand made and blah blah blah. It may last though this kiddos childhood, but Im not planning on this to last through several generations. It does what I need it to do and for the price, come on, it doesnt get any better.

I love this puzzle - my daughter plays with it every day and loves to make hte animal sounds as she plays with it.

Great puzzle for a 1 yr old. Durable, and the animal pictures are visible even when shapes are removed (unlike other puzzles where you would only see the shaped wood). This enhances my 1 yr old daughters ability to recognize where the pieces belong.

Bought this puzzle with the Safari and the Construction ones as well. This one and the Safari ones are my little ones (17 mons) favorites. We spend 30 mins playing with them. He loves to get them out and put them back in, I ask the names of each animal, and the sound they make. Really fun and educational. Also they are so well done Im sure they will last a long time.

I initially bought this for my soon-to-be born baby girl, but when my 2 1/2 toddler saw it, he insisted on mommy opening it. He played with it for 10 minutes then got bored since it was too easy for him. However, we did use the pieces to help him remember the names of the animals and the sounds they make. He already knew most of the animals from his board books, but it helped having a 3 dimensional version that he can hold while making the sounds.

Other reviewers have commented that this puzzle is not solid wood, which is true. The board is plywood and particle board, and the pieces are particle board. Its all very smooth and solid-feeling, and for the price Im very pleased, but this probably isnt a teething toy-- wait until after 15 months or so. I really like the colorful and cute graphics, the variety of animals for talking about animal sounds, and the fact that the chunky pieces stand up for pretend play-- does double duty to replace our missing Little People farm animals! I also like the format-- no knobs to distract from the pictures. Im planning to buy a couple of the others as well because my 17 month old definitely prefers this puzzle to the knob and crepe rubber puzzles we already have.
