The ink last for about 50 pages.
I dont use the red ink cartridge, so I would love to get 5 black cartridge instead.
You need them.
They are cheap.
Buy 2 pack and you should be save for a while...

I really enjoy the Livescibe product. It has been a great tool to use during my studies and daily work.
But for the cost of the cartridges, you would think the ink would last a lot longer. I get less than 20 pages of notes out of one cartridge. And that is only after shaking it like a printer cartridge just to milk the last few pages. For the amount of money paid I would hope to get more out of this.

Ink works pretty well, but runs out too quickly. Used six different ones for a single semester. Also it is slightly expensive. It is not bad, but when you consider you can get normal pens for free, it adds up. Dislike having the red pen ink instead of a normal one. Overall, like the ink, just rather have it last longer and be a little cheaper.

So many times, consumables for electronics wind up being prohibitively expensive, especially for niche market electronics like this pen. Fortunately, these arent at all expensive, and given the sheer usefulness that the pen has for my husband in his job, Im very appreciative about that.
He hasnt used the red, black is his preferred ink color, and since he uses his pen mostly during meetings at work where all he does is take short notes while recording, the cartridges last a long time for him. They also wipe off the sheet protector he keeps one of his notebook covers in for quickly accessing functions. Im going to try laminating one of the covers and see how that works.
Hes been just thrilled with his pen since he got it. Im glad its not expensive to maintain.

As an IT Security Consultant I spend significant amount of time in meetings and conference calls and capturing the level of detail and data for much of my work can be extremely time consuming. Livescribe has literally revolutionized how I go about my work. My ability to capture my meetings both in written word AND recordings has saved me having to pour over hours of notes and literally jumping to precise topics at the touch of the pen....and listen to it again rather then decipher notes. Would highly recommend to anyone who takes notes for a living!

I love Livescribe - it has changed my life for the better in so many ways, both in my class and work notes. However! These cartridges dry out too quickly! They last me about 40 pages... and its hard to keep track of when it will run out. I have the leather cover for the pen, but there is no way to conveniently store an extra cartridge on that cover either... I buy extras and keep them in my office, and one in my bag, but I think I may end up gluing a wee pocket for an extra cartridge to my leather livescribe case, because I tend to carry nothing but the pen and notebook to class/meetings sometimes (which is the most convenient way to use it anyway!). So, I wish they would make cartridges that last longer, even if they cost a little more, or put a something on the pen to help remind you when the cartridge is likely to run out, even if you had to manually reset it in the pen controls each time you switched cartridges. Livescribe reps, is there anybody out there? Oh well, I still love Pulse anyway!

When I decided to buy Livescribe pen this summer, I decided to buy additional ink cartridges as well since I did not want to get stranded in a middle of some important writing exercise, especially since Livescribe is still such a novel device and I cannot count on the local Walmart to carry any of its accessories. This proved out to be a prescient decision, since as many other reviewers have noted the cartridges dry up very quickly and need to be replaced often. The price of this replacement package is about right, with little over $1 per cartridge. However, I dont anticipate using the red cartridge any time soon, so that one is practically a waste. One problem that I have with the packaging is that the inner container that holds the cartridges is rather small, and easy to lose in your drawer. I would recommend getting a somewhat bigger stand-alone box to keep these cartridges in before they need to be used.

The Livescribe Pulse Pen is becoming my ever more frequent companion as I learn just how useful it is.
The more you write, believe it or not, the sooner youll run out of ink. Thus the ongoing need for refills.
The Livescribe pen uses a short refill of a kind I dont recall seeing before.
Livescribe, much to its credit, does not gouge you for refills as printer manufacturers do for ink cartridges. They are very reasonably price at a little less than a dollar each. (If you have your site Prime, shipping is free making this an extraordinary value.)
I am getting about fifty pages of journal entries from each cartridge, meaning a cost of about two cents per page. Not bad at all.
Livescribe goes the extra mile here and cover the tip of each refill with wax to keep the ink from hardening or evaporating or whatever ink does.
It is nice of Livescribe (and obviously good for business) that they dont make us of their marvelous so expensive that it is used less.

If you use LIvescribe Smart Pen, then these extra ink cartridges are essential. For a semester worth of writing for class notes only, you will need about 3 cartridges. So you need to keep them handy in case you need to change cartridge middle of the class/meeting. These are of the same quality as the original cartridges that come with the Smart Pen. Fun to write with.

I bought these for my daughter who is in another state attending Law School. I dont know anything about using this product. I can tell you though that I was pleased with the shipping. Getting them to her was my only concern. She did tell me the ink doesnt last long and it could get expensive, so she has limited what she uses this for.

I want to make it clear that this review is regarding the ink only, not the pen itself, since it seems as if many of the reviews here address the pen, which is sold seperatly.
I have to say that I agree with the other poster when I say that I am going through more pen cartridges than expected. I just looked and I am writing about 120 pages per 2 cartridges (or 60 pages per cartridge). This also counts about the last 20 pages being written by doing the scribble to try to get the ink to come back technique. While I think they are priced very reasonably, I do not think that this should lower my expectation of the life I should get out of a pen refill. Which brings me to my next concern.
Having to go through so many refills makes this a little less than enviromentally friendly, but what puts this over the edge in my world of green is the packaging: This comes in an unbelievably large box just to hold 5 tiny cartridges. I actually thought the box was empty, and there was the tiny envelope at the bottom with the cartridges in it. Kind of reminded me of how they used to sell the PC games in these HUGE boxes just for a CD.
I still love my Livescribe pen and cannot live without it, but provide these tips in hopes that some improvements can be made in these crucial areas.

I love this pen. I am an adult who has returned to school and this pen has been more than helpful. I also use it for work. Board meetings and such.
The price seems high but this product pays for itself right away.

Ive had three of these nibs dry up to the point of unusability within fifty pages of writing. It maybe related to the fact that (a) the livescribe pens dont have tops, and (b) the cradle holds the pen horizontally. Anyway, Im going through many more cartridges than expected. I just ordered some blue ones in the hope that they last longer than the black; Ill report in a review on that page if I have any luck.

I have owned my Pulse Smartpen since May, 2008. Several months ago when I needed to buy additional notebooks, I commented how the notebooks were reasonably priced and how Livescribe was obviously not pricing its supplies like printer manufacturers price toner and inkjet cartridges.
After 8 months I finally need new ink cartridges. With a little bit of trepidation I went to the your site website. I wasnt surprised, but I was certainly pleased with what I found.
Livescribe, to its great credit, continues to sell supplies at a reasonable price. These replacement cartridges are a prime example.
