This is more of a personal biography of Jack and the stages he went through in his life. I can only say that he went through a lot of them before he narrowed it down to this. I wish he hadnt taken so long in getting this one out or maybe I hadnt taken so long to see if there were any like this before now. If I can look as good as Jack does now, he is 96, when I turn 70 I will feel that I have accomplished something from his book. He lets one believe that you are never to old to learn and that is important. The main thing is that this book is not a weight loss diet book, its a, and please forgive my treky vocabulary, live long and prosper diet book. If I had tried looking for something like this 40 years ago I wouldnt be in the condition I am now. But not to worry because if I follow his advise as best I can I hope to be able to get at least another 25 to 30 years. In the book he also springs a bomb shell on retirees. If you dont have a hobby or other interests that will keep you busy after you retire and you chose to become a couch potato your life expectancy is about 5 years. Im here to tell you that in year 4 of that life style he isnt far off on that estimate. If I hadnt gone to the doctor when I did and decided to wait another year, I wouldnt be typing this review, so be forewarned if you are retiring soon by all means get this book and take it seriously.

Jack Lalanne practices what he teaches. With Live Young Forever he shows how to be wholesome, irrespective of ones age, physical condition, etc.
This work is as wonderful as Jacks life, and I would highly recommend it.

I know. Living legend IS one of the most stale and overused phrases of our generation. But it definitely applies to Jack LaLanne.
Its all here, the wisdom of 95 years from a fitness enthusiast who is as enthusiastic as ever. Why dont people listen? Actually, they do. LaLannes influence reaches back for six, seven, maybe even eight decades. As Robert Kennedy says in the foreword, the term jacked-up for someone who is super-fit, and the common use of jumping jack (which goes by various names across the world) both are attributable to LaLanne. He invented many weight devices, including the popular Smith machine, long before resistance weight training was universally recommended for people of all ages.
You will not find anything in this book strange or mysterious; no talk of muscle-confusion or how to shed 20 pounds in a few short weeks. LaLanne tells you how to change YOUR life for YOUR benefit. And he keeps on and on, writing about YOU over and over until, he hopes, YOU realize that these truths also apply to YOU. Clearly this person sincerely cares about his fellow human beings.
The man is a national treasure, and this book is filled with his characteristic humor and honesty. One gets the impression the writer is not only obsessed with his own physical conditioning (yes, even at 95), he REALLY wants YOU to get on the bandwagon as well.

We have so many great names in weight lifting and body training in the year 2010. With shows like the Biggest Loser and 250+ Television channels it is not hard for us to find a fitness guru that we can relate to and look to for inspiration. Whether it is Jillian Michaels, Billy Banks, Bob Harper, Richard Simmons or even Jane Fonda! There will only be one Godfather of Fitness and that is Jack LaLanne! He is the man that started it and is still going strong at 95 (September 09).
While I like the title of Live Young Forever...it is not my goal to be forever young but rather my goal to be healthy and around for a very long time. The Live Young Forever book covers such concepts as:
* Lose fat and tone your entire body in the fastest time
* Eat correctly to maximize longevity and lifelong health
* Beat daytime fatigue and enjoy 24-hour vitality
* Regain that waistline , hip and thigh measurement of your youth.
* Achieve an amazing level of lifelong health and fitness
* Have boundless energy every day for the rest of your days, months, years
Sleep the whole night through without suffering the annoyance of restlessness or insomnia
* Live your life to drastically reduce the risk of heart attaches, strokes or cancer
When you receive a book written my an icon of fitness and health ... you listen. This is not a man who has preached one lifestyle and lived another...you can clearly see the evidence of his belief system in fitness. 95 and still working out...thats an inspiration.

I learned so much about Jack Lalanne, the histroy and evolution of the fitness industry, as well as how my food and nutrition apply to me today. It is easily divided into 12 chapters in a non intimidating way. I read it from cover to cover but can easily go back if I need to and find something specific. I would recomend this book to everyone and anyone who is into maintaining or improving their overall health. Jack (and his story) is truly an inspiration to millions!

I am a registered nurse and have read many diet, healthy living, fitness and exercise books over
the years. This is THE best motivational fitness book I have ever read. Jack LaLanne has such good moral values and
a sterling character that shines through the pages of this remarkable book. All of his wonderful and sincere advice
is so heartfelt. After reading it the first night I began to think about myself differently which has led to making
better choices since I first read the book. Jack LaLanne has changed my life and I hope one day to meet him and tell him that. Jack LaLanne is working towards living to be 120 years old and I know he will make it. God Bless You Jack LaLanne.

Jack Lalanne has written this book many times in his life. Its a pretty simple message, Eat Right, Exercise and Keep a Positive Attitude! This isnt radical or extreme, we all have the power to control what goes into our mouths, every day. He says that theres a difference between hearing the message and getting the message. That has been my problem over the years. My intentions are good but Im weak in many ways. This book looks great, which makes reading it enjoyable. The design is very modern. I attribute that to working with Robert Kennedy and his company. I intend to keep this book close and make it my bible for fitness. Jacks old, very old. You could point to him and say, well, hes an anomaly, a freak of nature and I could never do that. I look at him and say that if he can do it, I can do something similar. Besides when you look at what hes done, standing next to him is Elaine whos not doing too bad herself.

Great advice but I was hoping for more in-depth material. Just general stuff I think most people already know. However will make the best of the information in the book.

Jack LaLannes remarkable health and vitality have always been an inspiration for me. How does he do it? Can I do it? In this book has he finally put it all together so that any of us can do it? I am not sure that we all can do what he has done, but I am sure that he has told us how he did it.
In the modern style, he reduces his ideas into a 12-step program. Those steps, each the topic of a separate chapter, are:
Motivation
Stay Away From Killer Habits
Personal Care
Eating Clean
Maintain Perfect Posture
Stay Well Hydrated
Stretching
Find Some Energy
Be In A Solid Relationship
Work Out
Never Retire
Consume Plenty of Fruits and Vegetables.
Like some of the other reviewers, I found a lot of his advice to be elementary level. It was not the kind of secrets book I was hoping to find. My expectations were not met, but that was a problem with my expectations. In this book Jack tells you what he did - and for him it has been a great success.
If you were to categorize Jack LaLanne, you would say that he is someone who has mostly lived by the conventional wisdom - rigorously applied - and shown how you can achieve great results for yourself that way. The fact that he has no secrets to disclose poses a threat and challenge to all the experts and gurus who try to peddle such secrets. His message seems to be a simple one: clean living, proper diet, and regular exercise. It sure has worked well for him.
Jack LaLanne is a very quotable guy. Here are my favorite nuggets from the book:
-There is no fountain of youth. What you put in your body is what you get out of it. (10)
-If man makes it, dont eat it. I do my best to avoid anything in a can or a box. (14)
-Anything in life is possible, and YOU make it happen. (15)
-You really can change your life. (34)
-Most of the causes of dying before ones time are avoidable. (38)
-I learned my lesson about moderation. Just because one apple is good for you, it doesnt mean that 80 apples will do 80 times as much good. (24)
-Your workouts will not exceed 30-40 minutes. And you wont do them every day of the week. (33)
-You came into this life alone and youre going to leave it alone. But in between, make the rest of your life the best of your life. (275)
Thanks, Jack LaLanne, for showing us how to live!

I love this book and I love Jack Lalanne. I also read his previous book, Revitalize. This particular book was inspiring enough for me to give it five stars in spite of the fact that a page or two was missing from my copy. I believe it was about Page 112 or 114. I dont have the book with me as Im writing this. Nevertheless, it was at a point where Jack was writing about organic produce versus inorganic with the pesticides and herbicides, etc.
Jack, if youre reading this, please email me the missing pages and all is forgiven. By the way, I tried steam-cooking fresh fish the way you recommended in one of your TV shows and it was terrific. Keep up the good work.

Jack LaLanne is a treasure! He is straight forward with his advice. At first glance, some of the advice - like personal hygeine - may seem overly simplistic. But Jack is covering all the areas of leading a fit healthy life, and felt the need to include all aspects. His advice and exercises are well presented. You cant beat 80 years of success! Who knew jumping jacks were named after him? I am now going to ask for the JL juicer for Christmas.

This is a wonderful book! Jack LaLanne has written a very motivational and inspiring gotta-have book. Just received it a few days ago, and have been very impressed by its very up beat tone. So much nutritional and exercise information, as well as lots of stories from Jacks career. I like his idea that no one is beyond improving themselves through good nutrition and exercise. Just what Americans need to read and heed. Thanks Jack--you are truly an inspiration!
