Description:
There are plenty of robots available on the market. However for those on a tighter budget, there is the Soda Can Robug. Explore the world of robotic science with the Soda Can Robug science kit from Green Science. Kids age 8 and up can recycle a pop can and turn it into a working robotic bug. Kids will be delighted to see it slide across the floor just like a real bug! It even makes a buzzing sound as it travels along. Kit includes plastic mechanic body, wire wings, wire legs, motor with wires, screws and detailed instructions. The Soda Can Robug is an imaginative way for children to explore mechanics and electricity. It's also ideal for showing children creative ways to recycle everyday items. This idea is very neat, but the robot is as crude as the empty can that you use

I bought this for my sons birthday party and was fairly simple to put together. Product worked well and has lasted. Would recommend to others. Also purchased Toysmith 4M Tin Can Robot and Robot Duck.

We had a lot of fun putting the parts together, but this little bug is really loud! It moves by vibration, so it doesnt really move a whole lot.

Look this isnt a kit from Nasa. It will not be the robot building experience of your lifetime. However, it will kill an hour or maybe two with a child and then leave something neat for them to have on their shelf. You will not be programing this as a droid for etiquette and protocol. It is meant to offer a little bit of fun on a Saturday afternoon just after lunch but before you start thinking about dinner. Treat it like the 10 dollar gift item it is and everyone will be thrilled.

I bought this robot as a Christmas gift for my 13 year old brother. He has recently been taking apart electronics and trying to make robots out of the inside parts. The Robug let him see how the pieces fit together. I was worried at first because I thought it might be too childish, but he seemed to really enjoy it and thought it was super cool!. It was simple and quick to make and I would recommend it to anyone. I ordered it from Hobby Shack. They delivered it quickly and I had no problems at all.

I bought this product for my eleven year old brother. He and my dad had a great time putting it together. Once it was assembled (not too hard) the switch was flipped and the robot immediately buzzed itself across the table. Cute and fun to watch. I wouldnt say it created hours of amusement, but there was a sense of accomplishment and I dont feel that it will gather much dust before its played with again.

I purchased this Soda Can Robug for my niece who is 9 years old.
Its very simple, really. You build a sleeve to insert a soda can into. That sleeve has legs that are very similar to bent paper clips. It also has a motor attached that is similar to a video game controllers rumble feature. When turned on, the robug vibrates enough to move the entire thing in circles (about half a Meter in diameter for me, but I doubt this is consistent across the product line). It only works if its on a smooth, level surface.
Thats it. Other than the shaking motor, there are no moving parts. No leg movement or anything like that. It does resemble a fly, and the motor makes a bzzzz noise that imagination could make like a bug, I suppose.
My niece either is polite and a gifted actress, or she was delighted by this thing. She assembled the entire thing with no trouble (then again, its extremely simple, requiring a few screws to be screwed), and I thought it was fun watching her follow the instructions.
But its not educational, its not challenging, and its not interesting when compared to all the little robot kits I grew up playing with.
Now, I dont think I was deceived or anything... but I wouldnt have bought it if I had paid more attention to the utter simplicity of this thing. Im giving it 4 stars because it is well made, and I simple was disappointed this wasnt a different sort of product (thats my fault).

did you know not all pop cans are the same size? We discovered this when trying to put it together. the pieces that go around the can are made for a specific size can, and our first try didnt fit

2 of my 4 kids really enjoyed being a part of the building process. My 6-yr old son wandered off near the beginning, but my 4-yr old and 8-yr old were spellbound. It took less than 30 minutes to put it together. Then we spent 30 minutes watching it spin in circles on the floor. It doesnt have an extremely sturdy build and it is definitely not 11 pounds of shipping. Its a fun little toy, albeit kind of expensive. We like the one we have, but wont be getting another. The emphasis in the description on recycling is a little over the top...

Cute beginner robot for 6 year old and Dad to build.
It is always good to do a little recyling lesson with
something in which a child shows interest. Good Start.
