First heard the song ROOT in 95 at a friends house and was blown away. I went from bush and nirvana to something far greater and mind opening. (The tool aenima psychedelic experience came at the same time haha)
Around the Fur and Adrenaline still take me back to the day. I still put in those albums and they take me back to those summers of living life and having new experiences to the sounds of deftones. I still put in these albums on a summer day and it brings a smile. I wish I could go back to those days, the style of music. Hacky sacks and hemp, skateboarding before and after school, Riding my bike across town to sneak into girls houses and run out the back door when their parents got home. Sneaking out at night to go on rodies and parties. What a life. I miss it!!!
Any of you out there around 25 yrs old that remember the good ol days??? Please reply with comment.
Adrenaline and Around the Fur and White Pony are my fav. along with tools aenima and lateralus
Anyhow White pony is amazing. Had plenty of good memories with that album driving summer nights, drinking partying. Self titled is good but not as good as previous 3. I still had good times. I am hardcore fan but still wont buy Saturday Night Wrist. I only like a few songs. Very rushed album!! I dont think Chino was in the right mindset for that album nor was the rest of the band. Trust me im hardcore fan but that album just isnt the same...Diamond Eyes is a ton better than Saturday Night Wrist. Diamond Eyes has those few moments where I feel like im in the around the fur days. Also those douchebags that think deftones are nu-metal (which they arent) dont have any musical talent to not atleast say deftones are a talented unique distinct sounding band. No one and i mean no one sounds like them. Not like todays metal music where half the bands sound like Killswitch Engage had babies. Sorry, had to get that in there, those nu-metal people piss me off. The greatest bands of all time are the hardest to define in a genre.
I know this review was more about memories rather than detailed review. But I just was thinking today how I wish I could go back and relive the mid and late 90s all over again. Take me to 98 please.

Throughout the years of my ever growing interest in music, I have always managed to find Deftones to be one of the bands that easily stand out and make a voice for themselves. They may have been shrugged off by some as just another nu-metal band, but do I ever pity those that make that shallow decision. This band has always been far more than that, making a unique voice with each album, and Around the Fur marks the second chapter of their time as a band.
While the previous album, Adrenaline was overwhelming raw fury, this album channels it out with less of the raw factor and paving way for a plethora of emotions, inspired by the tragic passing of Dana Wells. This can mostly be heard from vocalist Chino Moreno, somebody you cant describe and has to be heard to believed.
The instrumental spectrum manages to hook you in, whether it would be the opening drum fill to the title track, the guitar reverb in Dai the Flu, the build up in Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away), or even the melancholic vibe in Mascara, Deftones are a rock band that manages to utilize the best out of their potential. Everything flows freely and nothing is held back.
If there are any minor setbacks, I would mention Headup, which is still a good song but the inclusion of Max Cavalera may have seemed a bit out of place. Otherwise, I highly recommend this album to those that are fond with the emotion of shoegaze and the aggression of hard rock. Even though the group would have upped their ante on White Pony, this is just as excellent and should definitely not be overlooked.

This album is excellent. Around The Fur, My Own Summer and Be Quiet And Drive are the hits off the album. I bought this in spring of 98 and ive played the crap out of it ever since. Wed play this before baseball games and then play it after games while driving around drunk. Those were the times and this was/is great music! BUY THIS ALBUM PLUS ALL THE OTHERS:)

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT REGARDING THIS TRANSACTION EXCEPT THAT THE PRODUCT WASNT EDITED LIKE IT SAID. NOW THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS TRANSACTION WAS THAT THE SELLER ACKNOWLEDGED FAULT AND PROVIDED ME A SPEEDY REFUND. THIS WAS TRULY HONORABLE AND BECAUSE OF THAT I WOULD DEFINITELY DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SELLER AGAIN.

Deftones Around the Fur- I bought this cd a couple of weeks after I bought their debut Adrenaline. I was immediately hooked to Adrenaline, so I went out and bought this one. Needless to say I was also immediately hooked to this one. Its definately heavier than Adrenaline (In my opinion). The chugging riffs and Chinos signature vox are there but it seems a little slower than Adrenaline. But in a good way. Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away) is definately one of my favorite Deftones songs. Also, make sure you fast forward after MX to the hidden song Damone.

Almost nine years since I bought this album for the first time and I am still addicted. It has yet to bore me, and pretty much laid the foundation for my current taste in music, great band indeed.

I consider myself as a diehard deftones fan. I honestly can say that I enjoy anything that is produced by them. I think around the fur is the first cd Ive owned by def as far as I can remember. I love the sound they have on this release. Its signature def and I cant get over it. This album still gives me the chills.

I havent listened to this CD in years and when I mean years I mean since 1999, and I had only really listened to 1 song... My own summer, it wasnt until the b-sides cd was released and I watched the clip for Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away) I had a renew interest in the album. Upon first listen I was blown away, each song well crafted, full of angst and clever lyrics. After repeated listens especially the ace Head Up on high rotation, I could see the formula that has been ripped off from countless other Nu Metal bands ***cough*** Linkin Park ***cough***. At least the Deftones made it their own sound and have grown into what they are today...
