Previous tailgate stays were articulated pairs of steel bars that were hidden when the tailgate closed and lasted the life of the truck. These vinyl jacketed, carbon steel cables are a crappy, lower cost design option.

This is my second set of replacements. Weak, poor design has become a recent hallmark of Toyota design.

Its not just a gas pedal problem, its a corporate culture of ignoring Professor Demings red marbles.
