I got this item a few weeks ago. I really liked it. It is easy to use, has nice features, good sound, and stays on well when working out. I only gave construction quality 2 stars because after only a couple of weeks worth of use, it broke on me. It started having trouble turning on, and when it did turn on, the volume adjustment didnt work, it wouldnt seek songs, and it kept switching from Zappin In/Zappin Out/Zappin Short/Zappin Long modes. I finally sent it into the manufacturer after failed attempts of resetting, fully charging, etc... Hopefully I just got a lemon.

This new type of Walkman from Sony far exceeded my expectations. It is compact, comfortable to wear, easy to operate and there arent any annoying wires to dangle or tangle. The unit itself is its own headset. I especially like that it is recharged and songs are downloaded from ITunes using a USB connection to my computer. Good job, Sony!

Hopefully this review might help if you want to, but youre unsure about buying this mp3 player.

Ive been searching for stereo bluetooth headphones for my iPhone, but I just havent been swayed in terms of comfort/looks/functionality to make a purchase yet. I came across these for $49 at Wal-Mart & really didnt know what to expect. I usually check your site Mobile before I make any purchase, Im glad I didnt because I probably wouldnt have bought these based on the ratings/reviews.

I love music. When Im working out, hitting golf balls, taking pictures, etc. Ill go so far as when Im waiting in line at Publix, instead of listening to people complain & kids cry, Ill bust this headset out & listen to J5. They might look a little different straight on, but from the side they look like a BT headset. Looks really arent an issue at the gym, range, etc., & at the supermarket - who cares when youre listening to your favorite tunes.

This is my 2nd headset, I had to return my 1st purchase. I completely understand the negative reviews & I can relate to the frustration of hearing funny tones instead of music. When I got home with my first set, I plugged it into my Mac & up came the drive icon, after dragging a few songs over & seeing them on the drive, I let it charge & then tried it out. While the navigation wheel takes some getting used to, I did hear my music & the set was very comfortable. I plugged it back in & decided to free up some space by deleting all the files on the drive except music. Probably a big mistake. From there on out, all I could get were funny tones instead of music. I tried reformatting the drive & reloading it, but no luck, nothing seemed to work. The next day I went to get my money back, but having experienced the headset working (for a very brief time), I decided it would be worth giving it a shot on a new set. Im very glad that I did.

When I got home with the 2nd set, the 1st thing I did was back up the included folders and files that come with it. Then I simply dragged music from my iTunes playlists onto the drive & then left it to charge through the night. The next morning I went down to the beach to shoot the sunrise, but I really didnt know what to expect. What I got was nearly 2 hours of listening to my favorite music while I took pictures. That afternoon I went to the driving range to hit a few & practice my around the green shots. I spent over 2 hours practicing until it got dark. I really dont know how long one charge will last & Im sure its dependent on the volume of which you listen to your music, when not in use I let it charge in my car through a USB adaptor. The longest Ive kept them/it running was for over 3 hours while doing yard work, which is so much easier to do without a headphone cord getting in the way and/or earbuds in need of constant repositioning.

After a month of use, Im confident to give this headset a solid 5 stars. Ive worked out almost everyday with them on, Ive gone for 3 mile runs, and sweated a good deal - all without a problem. I can overlook my experience with the 1st set, along with the lost time and frustration that came with it. In hindsight, it was probably my own fault. Although you cannot navigate to a particular song, I dont have a problem that. The only songs that come up while on shuffle are the songs that I have loaded, if I dont want to hear a particular song, its easy enough to skip to the next one. As far as comfort is concerned, they fit like a glove on me. Im sure this will not be the case with everyone, but it is no reason not to try them for yourself. If you love to listen to music during your activities, Ive yet to come across a better solution for doing so.

First of all, Im no shill for Sony -- I think theyve made some terrible products in the past. Im also a big ol Apple fanboy -- I love my iPhone and laptop, and cant imagine life without em. Ive also had plenty of iPods over the years, and Ive mostly loved them too. But the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod Shuffles were disasters (particularly the 3rd generation). For devices aimed squarely at the active set, the Shuffles had some big sweat-related flaws. As a runner, Ive been through several Shuffles over the past several years, and Ive been cursing more as a result.

Enter the W Series. I was skeptical at first, but ultimately so fed up with the Shuffle that I decided to try em. I thought theyd look goofy on me, like two bluetooth headsets, but with a hat, theyre actually fairly subtle. The best part about them is the lack of cords -- nothing worse than cords slapping against you while you run. They stay on and are as comfortable as any set of earbuds. I was able to just drag music from my iTunes music folder on my Mac directly into the music folder on the Walkman, which mounted immediately on my desktop. 2GB is more than enough space for several albums.

I havent bothered with the super-dumb-sounding Zappin feature, and theres an annoying beep when advancing tracks. Overall though, controls are super-intuitive, and the thing hasnt given out yet, and the sound quality is great. The player itself seems relatively insulated from sweat during a run, as it sits on the outside of the ear (the biggest flaw of the 3rd generation Shuffle is its cord-mounted control buttons; theres really no way to keep from sweating right onto em).

Im delighted to have *finally* found a solid mp3 player for running. Ill update this review if they die anytime soon, but so far, so good.

Love this walkman. I use it almost everyday especially at the YMCA - waterwalking, gym, track. You dont want to get it wet, and I havent yet, after more than 6 months use. Load it up with songs with a good beat and youre ready to go.

I picked them up for use at the gym (lifting and cardio). I love that its only 1 device, there are no wires, and the quick charge. Also like that I can copy tracks to the device without installing any software, and it could be used as generic file storage if I didnt have a thumb drive on me. My main complaint is that it has poor bass. The magnet is also unnecessary, and I wish it did not have it, so I wouldnt have to worry about it potentially wiping out a credit card.

Anyway, I can wear them comfortably while lifting or jogging. The jog dial could be a little more sensitive when skipping tracks, because its a little hard to operate while jogging.

Instead of the Zappin functionality, Id rather have the ability to swap audio types (e.g. music and audio books). Because I like to listen to music while lifting, and then switch to audio books for cardio. The audio book would functionality would need some way to skip within a track/book and auto bookmark.

I really like these, but if they come out with a new version, improved bass and more storage would be enough for me to upgrade.

Good for gym, and being wireless in general.

Song transferring is easy enough, all the software and documentation is already on the device. Playlist categories (as in assorting your songs to how you want them to play on the device) and sorting through songs isnt great, albeit there is no interface to look at. You have to manually make playlist changes by manually changing the alpha/numeric title of each song. Bleh.

Sound quality makes me happy, ease of use makes me happy, the thing looks cool, doesnt slide around, and best of all is wireless. Comfortable as well. Not super portable but you can manage if you need to; not a pocket burden, but does have a weird shape if youre storing it.

Did I mention its wireless?

for 50$-, totally worth it.

I bought mine at Wal-Mart since it was on sale for $35 about a month ago.
I love it, I got it to replace my ipod video [60gb] and at first I thought I would
have a hard time dealing with just 2gb but I have yet to really have much of a tiff with it.

Im not the sporty type, I actually got these to wear while walking around my college campus
to and from classes, I got tired of my bud wires scraping on my hoodie zipper so I couldnt hear the sound,
plus having the wires get in the way all the time, on the sixth time dropping my poor ipod,
I said I leaving it at home and getting something else.

These are a God sent, no wires, easy on and off, it has an interesting scroll back and forth
through songs and when you need to listen to your surroundings
(i.e Professor) then you can just move the head set down around your neck.
The docking stand is really cool, and takes up very little space.

The only issue I do have is they are not made for people who have some weight on their neck/back of the head.
One ear piece will pop out of your ear sometimes. Id say if you neck is 18in thick or below youll be fine.
Even when the ear piece does get loose from your ear, the headset doesnt move, they do stay in place.

If your not into everything being black, there is a pink model. . .. But Im not much of a pink person lol

I have used this mp3 for a school proyect in which I have to promote a company and I chose SONY, they gave me the latest devices that they have, the VAIO W, which is better than other netbooks out there; the Genezi FST ZUX999 Which I highly recommend; a PS3, a 52 LCD and this MP3 player.
THis MP3 sounds excellent, it is stylish (if you buy a pink VAIO W and one of these will be fantastic). It is so easy to use, in less than 30 minutes you will get used to it and it is sound cancelling!! but the best of all is that it is so cheap that almost anyone can afford it. BUY IT IT is GREAT !!!!

I bought this walkman just for the gym. I had used the older mp3 players with the armbands and the dangling wires just kept getting in the way. For months I wondered when someone would come up with the idea of a totally wireless MP3 player and sure enough Sony answered my prayer.

Before I bought it I was skeptical about how it would stay put in my ears seeing that the only thing that seems to hold it in are the earbuds themselves. However, after purchasing it, I found that it fits very snugly, and stays in place even after 30 minutes on the elliptical. I had to do some minor adjustments once or twice but overall the fit is great. It comes with different size earbuds for you to choose from.

The sound is amazing, as can be expected from sony. The band that holds the 2 earpieces together stay put right under the curve of your head and does not interfere much even when doing situps.

Overall a great MP3 player for the Gym!

I love to listen to sermons and the audio Econmist, but I hate cords that dangle from my ears. I had tried several bluetooth wireless headphones, but the audio quality wasnt great, and there were always occasional connection problems. Finally Sony came out with the W202, which isnt perfect, but it definitely beats bluetooth for my purposes. Once I managed to extricate them from their impenetrable clamshell package, I plugged them into my computer, deleted all the software and stuff that was on them, and loaded them up with my favorite spoken audio. I turned the shuffle switch on hit play, and they worked. I had to put the small ear-cups on to get them to fit in my ear canals. This has the added advanatage of allowing me to still hear a little of whats going on around me when Im running. The only controls are pause, play, forward, back, and volume. It works out, because thats all I need.

I havent had any sweat-related problems yet, but well see how that works out. I hope some other companies develop competing products soon -- I would like to see something slightly lighter-weight than this. Are you listening, Apple?

I like riding a bike so its kind of dangerous to use in that case. I use it in the bus, while I walk and in the car (when im not driving), lets say I give it a normal use.

Its good. I had a Apple Shuffle so for me the new feature Zappin is really a relief. You dont have to click all the time to find that song.

I dont like long reviews so lets see the best and the worst:

The Best
-Good sound and dont need to have earphones
-Zappin makes your journey more pleasant
-Its not uncomfortable at all
-Fast charging! In like 10 minutes it charges a high % of the battery.

The worst
-Sometimes its hard to find a good spot for it in your pocket since the cable are so thick.
-The zappin sometimes makes you cry. Lets say you have the short zapping (4 seconds) if you click play in the last second, the song played will be the next and not the one you chose.

I am a mac user and I was planning to run this MP3 player on virtual Windows via VMware Fusion.
But guess what? This works fine on my Mac!
Jut plug in and drag-and-drop MP3s from iTunes to MUSIC folder inside this MP3 walkman.

The controls very simple, NO sound setting (not even sonys Mega Bass), two buttons to control volume, a jog dial for play/stop and previous/next track, NO fastforword/rewind. ZAPPIN function gives short 4sec (by default, 15 sec options available) clips on each track.

The sound quality lacks in bass, but it feels pretty clean and certainly good enough for loud fitness center and indoor rock climbing gym.

Some may have difficult time putting this on your ears. This type of earbuds exists in sony for awhile and this is how you do it:
You either pull your ear lobe as you put it on
OR
as you put it on your ears, rotate the earbuds piece so its vertically oriented instead of horizontal as shown on photo. It should fit securely if you did it right.

Background: I have been looking since what seems forever for the perfect headphone/mp3 solution for the gym. I exercise mostly at the gym for strength training (use my own music) and for cardio (I use guided interval training mp3 workouts). I use cardio coach (www.cardiocoach.com) my absolutely favorite cardio option, and itrain (www.itrain.com) which is pretty neat too.
Traits I look for in the perfect mp3 player for the gym:
- Should be light, unobtrusive and rugged. I do not want to worry about scratching, dropping or damaging the player. The player should not get in the way when I workout.
- No headphone wires. Headphone wires get in the way and sometimes I have even yanked them accidentally out of the player while working out.
- Should be easy to navigate to and find what I want to play (exact Cardio Coach Volume, or playlist for my strength training)
- Decent sound quality

I dont mind not having a whole lot of storage-capacity because I am OK with transferring music/workouts frequently to the player. About a couple of weeks worth of content is all I expect it to hold.

About the Sony W202: This is an incredible idea. A pair of great sounding wireless headphones with a 2GB mp3 player integrated right into the headphones.

Overall impressions:
- Better than jaybird gear, the previous bluetooth wireless headphones (for use with ipods or any mp3 player) I had reviewed here (http://www.your site/review/R2VP6138TP6JQ6/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm). But the perfect gym mp3 solution has not yet been invented. (I used the jaybird gear headphones with an ipod nano. Wireless freedom and no need to wear the nano on my person either...it can be kept in a corner of the gym....was quite happy...I am dumping them now and switching to this Sony W202.)

How it scores over jaybird gear:
- I have come to realize that with in-ear style sport headphones (headphones that are sweat resistant, comfy and wont come out when you are active), fit has a lot to do with shape and size of the ear canal. I was lucky to get decent fit with jaybird gear. They dont work for my husband as they keep falling out when he runs. From online reviews this is what I gather too. Either they fit you or they dont. Sony has a less ear-shape dependant construction and is likely to fit more people, though it is by no means universal. It has three sizes of ear bud adaptors to provide flexibility for ear canal size.
- Sound quality is better than jaybird. Jaybird uses bluetooth - bluetooth compression affects clarity of sound. Jaybird sounds decent ( better than a lot of regular, non-bluetooth, cheaper headphones) but is not on par with higher end headphones.

The good:
- Meet the need so well on being comfortable, unobtrusive and secure-in-fit (the last being for me...your mileage may vary based on your ears). I did a 40 minute elliptical workout, a ten minute treadmill run and some core training on the stability ball and they stayed put and out of the way. I did not have to as much as touch the headphones to adjust the fit except once in the first five minutes of the workout when I fiddled for a better angle in the fit for a few seconds. They then stayed completely out of the way and secure. (For me, the fit is more comfy and secure than jaybird.)
-The controls seem difficult when you look at the player, but when you actually use them they are surprisingly easy to operate. I had no learning time. I did not fiddle. I could very easily control the player during the very first time.
- I like the Zappin feature for ease of operation. When you press the jog wheel and keep it depressed, you hear Zappin in and then the player scrolls through all the music on the player by playing brief snatches of each song, When you find the song you want you just press the jog wheel again and it will play sequentially from that point on. To exit Zappin mode all you do is press the jog wheel lightly again and you hear Zappin Out.
- For $ 69, they are very cost effective. That is less than a high end pair of headphones and less than quite a few mp3 players as well.
- It has a optional shuffle mode if you want it to play music in random order.
- Great battery life and a 3 minute charge option for 90 minute playback.

What could have been better:
- You can use two modes to transfer music to the player. The first is with the inbuilt software called content transfer. Content transfer works with iTunes or Windows Media player. After you install Content Transfer on your PC, you can drag and drop music from iTunes or Media player on to Content Transfer. It will analyse each track to recognize the chorus as it transfers music to the player. Then, should you use Zappin during playback of the player, it will play the most recognizable bit. Issues with Content Transfer:
a. Not eactly as easy to set up and use as itunes. OK for people who are techno-patient and dont mind reading manuals, but not as intuitive as itunes.
b. The auto-recognition of the most recognizable bit may not work very well for workouts (workouts tend to have longer mp3 tracks some of which reuse music). It works most of the time but not always for music. I could not recognize most of my workouts and a also few songs using this feature.
c. The announce track-name feature to overcome lack of a screen in the latest iPod shuffle is a better way to navigate a screenless player. Too bad that the Shuffle still needs wired headphones. (Except for the navigation ease, I consider W202 a better sport option than the shuffle).

- You can also simply treat the player as if it were a detachable hard-drive on your PC and manually copy songs. Whe you use Zappin it will then play a snatch from the 45 second mark within the track. I think this feature is better because it allows you to organize the music exactly as you want within folders on the player, unlike Content Tranfer mode that organizes its own folders on the player. However, there is no way to scroll from Folder to Folder during playback. The player will go through your music in alphabetical sorting order - by folder, and within each folder by track name. You can easily organize the music so that you put in a preceeding number (like 01., 02., 03., ...etc) before each Folder name or track name to ensure it plays in the right order. The ability to scroll not just through tracks, but also at the folder-name level whould have created the equivalent of playlists on the player and brought it pretty close to perfection in my opinion.
- There is no way to mark tracks to exclude them in shuffle mode as you can with ipod models (I can mark workouts, audiobooks and podcasts to be excluded in shuffle mode on my ipod and just listen to my music in random order).

The bad:
- You can skip to the next song or the previous but you cannot forward or rewind within a track.
- The USB connecter on the player is not covered. During active use that represents an issue because sweat could get in and cause damage. The positioning of the mini-USB connector port isnt exactly where sweat is likely to reach, but still...if you work out hard, the player coud be at risk.

Should you get the player?:
- Only if you are thinking of getting a new player specifically for the gym or for active use. Otehrwise get something with a screen to help navigation.
- If you already have a player or wireless bluetooth headphines, wait for the next Sony Walkman W202 version which (based on how vendors release upgraded models of popular mp3 players) should be about April 2010. I bet the player will overcome many glitches in its next avatar.
- If you buy, make sure you buy from a place that has a return policy in case the player does not work for you during the first couple of exercise sessions.

Unlike the earlier reviewer who claimed its not sweat/water resistant, mine works just fine. The sound quality is excellent. The jog dial control is very easy to use. And the battery life is truly amazing! The only thing missing here is the FM tuner but I dont listen to radios when work out so I have no problem with that.

When I first saw this headset, I knew it was a great idea, and something that I really needed. My only question was how it would fit. From the look of the product in the two video reviews I saw prior to its release, I thought that the cord that connects the two earbuds would fit over the ear holding the earbuds in place. In one of the video reviews, the woman reviewing the headset did jumping jacks, and the headset stayed securely in place.

Well with my headset, the right side stays puts, no problem. The left side is the one that keeps falling out of my ear. I have tried all of the earbud sizes, I stuck with the largest size, but it still slips out of my ear.

What I have found that seems to work somewhat, is to wear my glasses and on the left size, put the frame on the outside of the cord the connects the earbuds. This works better than than just wearing the headset. It still will not hold it in place if the workout involves a lot of movement. If I am just using the weight machines, I am fine, I just need to push the left earbud in from time to time.

I would be interested in hearing if someone has found a fix for this, I am still trying to find a better way to keep them from slipping out.

The features, sound quality and ease of use is great. If the left side earbud would stay secure like the right side, they would be perfect.
