The 85 Watt Apple Portable Power Adapter features the MagSafe Connector, a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection. When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light. I have a 17 inch MacBook Pro. I was always forgetting to bring my charger to work. The battery would last most of the day, but only with some careful power management. This OEM charger works just like the original. I leave it at work and the original at home and never have to think about it. The only caution is that this charger does not come with the longer plug with cable, just the plug that attaches directly to the block as pictured.

I bought this after a power supply failed. I bought a refurbished unit at a considerable savings and it was delivered the next day; before I found that Apple would replace the original one for free. I keep one at my home office and the other in my computer bag for travel. I was very happy with the speed of the service.

The Apple mag-safe adapter is nice idea. Its cool that I can charge my 15 Macbook Pro and my 13 Macbook.

But the product isnt made very well, in having both my computers for almost a year, Ive had to buy two more adapters. The cording is not strong at all and certainly not durable. I wish it were, because its intentions are good.

The price stinks. I hate that when I have to buy it again, I have spend $70-80 bucks on it. Not worth it, but its what Apple offers so gotta go a long with it, I guess.

Its the official Apple product, if youre going to buy it, but the official adapter, not the cheap imitations that are out there. They certainly arent worth it.

This charger JUST got the same problem as my last one, and the one before! The cord is coming out of the brick, exposing the wires. The first one came completely out, so it had to be replaced, and the second and this one are not broken..yet.

I put some super glue in today and mashed the cord in there and its staying, so hopefully it will never come completely detached :) I assume its an Apple design flaw that these cords are coming loose.

This is the Power Adapter for the newest generation MacBook Pro. I ordered an extra one to keep at the office so I didnt have to tote the adapter back and forth as well as the laptop. What a convenience it is! Totally worth the price.

The photos imply that the product ships with the extra cord. Mine did not. The way it was shipped -- unboxed, stuffed into a USPS envelope -- Im not 100% confident its a genuine Apple product.

This product works. Quick shipping. I just didnt feel like going to the Apple store so i purchased the power adapter from your site.
Same price as the store. There is no way around getting Apple products for a discount unless Apple allows it, which they dont.

My adapter was lost during travel. My replacement came in in a USPS envelope without an enclosed invoice, with cheesy shrink plastic over it. Was hard to believe was really Apple equipment, but seems to be, and does work fine. Lacks the full extension that comes with the laptop at purchase. I have never had a problem with OEM laptop AC adapters, even while traveling in third world nations with erratic power.

Although the listing here as for a none apple made adapter, many people have listed the real apple version under the new/used section.

My rule of thumb is to stay away from Apple knock off products. Whatever you save up front, isnt worth it, as they never last long or work properly. You tell this by the low star reviews.

I was fortunate enough to get a real apple product which is why I gave it five stars.

My advice is to pass on the unit listed on the first page of the product go to the used/new section, contact the sellers to see if the one they are selling is an OEM, not OEM replacement or compatible with and a list of a number of different models.

I did, and save about $25.00.

My previous adaptor had no hooks to use for winding up the cord when not in use. As a result, the cord by the plug became damaged. So Im very pleased to have a way of preventing this damage from occurring.

Let me start by saying something that does not have to do with this product directly. I wish that Apple would license the MagSafe technology so that 3rd party manufacturers would be able to make power adapters for the MacBook line. It isnt that I dont like this model but I would like to have other options. One of the small flaws Ill note below is that this isnt necessarily designed to be banged around in a bag or constantly wrapped and unwrapped, which is something I need for my laptop. Also, prior to purchasing my MacBook Pro I had an iGo power adapater. iGo everywhere130 Universal Notebook Power Adapter with iGo dualpower accessory This adapter lets you charge a variety of devices just by switching out the ends. Prior to my MacBook Pro I would carry this on the road and charge my PowerBook, iPod, Treo, and Motorola bluetooth adapater. I also had adapters for past products like my Nokia and Motorola cell phones. That was the great thing about it, buy a new device and just buy a new end piece for less than $10. iGo power tip A10 for Motorola Mobile Phones It also came with car and airline adapters. There isnt even a car adapter available for the MacBook Pro and an Airline adapter is separate and expensive. Apple MB441Z/A MagSafe Airline adapter

This is a nice adapter, especially the MagSafe connector. It is great not having to worry about your power adapter breaking off because someone tripped over the cable or you forgot it was plugged in when you pick up your computer. I also like the swappable plug. The built in cable wrap is nice but this is the first small flaw. My previous adapater had one of the small foldout wrap arms break off because they are only held on by a very small bit of plastic. If youre careful you shouldnt have a problem but I wrap and unwrap my cable multiple times per day. Im a professor and so I am constantly shuttling my MacBook Pro between the classroom, my work office, and my home office.

The other small flaw is that the cable connection to the MagSafe piece is not as tough as it should be. If you disconnect it by pulling on the cable you will eventually break this connection internally and have to buy a new adapter. The problem is that it is a persons natural inclination to remove the adapter in this manner. This is because of the way in which the adapter attaches and because the MagSafe portion is tiny. The proper way to remove it is to grasp the MagSafe portion and tilt up. I didnt even think about this until I read other problems that people were having online. Think about the way MagSafe is demonstrated. Someone trips over the cord and it pulls away from the compute. Since this is by design it only seems natural to grab the cable and pull to release it.

The last item is both a benefit and a potential problem. They have drastically reduced the size of the adapter from the original 85w model. This makes it easier to fit in your bag. However, it also means that the cable wrap arms are closer together and therefore your cable is wrapped tighter. This has the potential to cause additional wear on your cable if you wrap and unwrap it often.

I just purchased a second adapater so that I can leave one in my home office, which means Ill be packing it up once less each day, so less wear and tear. Also, I have an emergency backup on hand, which is nice since you cant get these just anywhere.

The retail price stated is wrong. It is in fact $79. For awhile now these adapters have had a thicker cord to prevent the fraying issues with earlier models. I dont like paying $79 either but check Dells power adapter prices if you really think they are cheaper. Some of the dell power adapters are $99. Everyone charges too much for power adapters. if your reason for buying a Dell instead of a Mac is because you think Dell power supplies are cheaper you are not paying attention.

Now I know why Apple stock is so high. I lost my cord and just needed to be able to power my MacBook. This costs $ 80 !! And all it is is the cord. Apple is obviously the choice of rich people in media. If you want to spend $ 20 on a cord, and not $ 80, buy a Dell. Hey, I am an Apple fan, but these prices are sheer greed. The cord works fine. But that is like saying, a Ferrari drives well.
