Have been using the Adesso 2.4 Ghz wireless mini keyboard for about a month now. It has performed well for my application. I have a very large plasma TV to which I have a few HDMI devices attached. One is a media laptop. With the Adesso keyboard, we can sit back on the couch and view pictures, videos and surf the web. The track ball and mouse click buttons are very ergonomically designed and placement is very intuitive and convenient. The track ball has a modest gritty resistance (kind of like a Blackberry trackball) which makes the pointing very accurate and does not roll away on the user. The keyboard works from >25 feet away, however, beyond that you cant see the screen anyway. I have observed only minor keystroke skips which was one of my bigger concerns. But for my application, I am not typing a 100 page dissertation, so the occasional backspacing on a URL or userid is not a problem. The only design issue I have is that it doesnt have Numlock/Caplack LEDs.

I am very happy with my Adesso keyboard. I have just made the transition from cutting my cable bill to viewing all of our television shows across the internet. It saves us about $60 a month now and makes our Tivo kinda useless! We connected a small computer to our flat screen and are using the Adesso for navigation instead of a mouse and wired keyboard. It is fantastic!

Any cons to list? Well... The connection is flakey if you plug the USB dongle behind the PC. I ran a USB cable and put it so that the signal didnt have to bounce off the wall to get to the back of the PC. You must activate the keyboard if you havent used it in like 5 minutes by pressing one of the mouse buttons. That isnt so bad and at least it saves battery that way. I keep rechargables in it and recharge them about every 3 weeks. Thats not so bad. Putting the batteries in was a brainteaser, but wasnt too bad. The wife gets frustrated with it because it goes to sleep, but the kids have no problem working it any time they want. I think that is just a training issue. The low battery light doesnt seem to be useful at all as that you know the batteries are starting to go down when you notice flakey behavior in the keyboard. So I have never seen it light up.

Pros? Well... since I have switched to internet television now I dont lose the remote! No seperate mouse to deal with! It is small enough to be comfortable but large enough to be usable. It meets our needs quite well.

Thanks Adesso for a good product.

I like this keyboard! I am using it to complete this review. Is is very comfortable, and the trackball is genius. I have the Adesso with the touch-pad in my living room, so when I put a computer in the bedroom I was going to get the same type. Then I found this and got it instead. I like the hot keys for volume and play/pause this has as well as the internet shortcuts. I use a mouse beside the other adesso, but dont need one with this keyboard. The keys are less sensitive than the 4000, but I have learned to press harder, and they get most strokes. Been using it for 2 weeks now and very happy. I did notice some grit in the trackball when it was new. but now that it is broke in, its all smooth.

I use this to control a mini laptop connected to my larger tv. It was a little difficult getting the drivers installed on the mini - I wondered if there was a power issue. I had to re-install the drivers and then it worked fine! Its great now, can operate the computer from in bed and the trackball makes working without a desk very easy.

I bought this to use with a HTPC I built. It usually works okay for scrolling through websites/making selections in Hulu Desktop. I like that it has buttons across the top for quick access to the web browser, volume control, etc.

However, the response varies from excellent to terrible. The keyboard itself feels cheap, but the real killer is that I often have to tilt the keyboard from side-to-side to get back keyboard/trackball response. As Im only 3 feet away from the computer and the USB dongle is plugged in on a front panel USB, these random dead zones are quite surprising. As with any cheap RF product, you get what you pay for.

However except for this problem it works well and Ive adapted in the last month to working with it. Its much better than using a wired usb keyboard and the integration of the trackball/keyboard is a great combo that more manufacturers should duplicate - just dont expect to be able to write the next War & Peace with this keyboard or youll be quite frustrated.

Lower cost than similar products and it works great. Comfortable to hold on you lap and use, worked on Win7 without a hitch.

Over the past few months, I built a HTPC and I really agonized over part selections. Then when it was all built, the last item I needed was a wireless keyboard. If you done any research, youve probably seen some pretty spotty reviews of wireless keyboards with built in mouse. I dragged my feet for a couple of weeks, unable to pick the best of the worst, but I ended up picking this one. Great choice. I dont have any regrets.

Im running Ubuntu on the HTPC. The box sits about ten yards from the couch. Ive got the USB receiver for the keyboard plugged into the back of the machine, so its out of sight. The computer/OS recognized the keyboard as soon as it booted, and I didnt have to install any other software. The keyboard is responsive and I dont think Ive had a dropped keystroke yet. It comes right out of sleep mode when I tap a directional key, and then its off to the races. Its even responsive enough to get me into BIOS at boot time, which many people have expressed reservations about. Ive been using it almost daily for about a month now and there hasnt been a glitch yet.

The built-in mouse is a trackball. It took a little while to get used to it, but now its unnoticeable. I can work the trackball with my right hand while I click the two mouse buttons with my left hand. Very comfortable layout. Im using a 48 HDTV for the monitor. The mouse pointer can move across the screen just as fast as I need it to, which has also been brought up in other reviews. When the keyboard first came out of the box, the trackball was a little sticky (not like grape jelly sticky, but you get the drift). After a few minutes of usage though, the factory stickiness wore off and I was able to click on the smallest of areas without moving the pointer. Just takes a little getting used to.

The key layout also takes a little getting used to, as it isnt laid out exactly the same as your typical desktop QWERTY board. No big deal. They just had to adjust things around a bit to accommodate for size. Speaking of size, I was a bit concerned that the keyboard wouldnt be big enough to be comfortable. Im about 6 foot 4 and I have big hands, so I didnt want a cramped little keyboard that I had to peck at. No problems at all here. My hands rest comfortably on the home row, and I dont have any trouble with fat-fingering keys when I type at normal/fast speed.

If this keyboard was at all a compromise, I would have boxed it back up and returned it. I wasnt about to spend a grand or so on a home theater PC, just to have some crappy keyboard make the whole setup annoying to use. Thankfully, this product is exactly what I was hoping for and it works great. Im glad I didnt spend twice as much on a Logitech or something, as I dont see what the extra money could have done for me. Its just a keyboard, and if it works, it works. Hope this helps!

I was shopping input devices for my HTPC. Originally I thought a remote control will be good, but I realized you really need a keyboard and mouse since Windows is not that remote-friendly (altho improved quite a bit from XP to Windows 7). My first choice was Logitech diNovo mini, but I was not willing to pay $150, nor did I like rechargeable batteries (which means you have to throw it away after 2 years of heavy use: this is a keyboard, not a cellphone!) As a result, I did quite a few researches and they landed me to this Adesso keyboard.

The keyboard was recognized by Windows 7 immediately, and the usage is quite intuitive. The range is pretty long: I could operate the keyboard 15 feet away without problem. The only problem is that I couldnt read all fine prints 15 feet away :) So, this is more than enough IMHO. The power management of this keyboard is very aggressive: it puts itself into sleep mode very soon, and it cant be waken by trackball. Personally I hit the Caps Lock key twice to wake it up so no accidental key stroke will show.

Its not intuitive to operate the trackball if youre so used to mouse, track pad, or track points. After a little training, it shall meet most of the HTPC operations, but do not expect playing first-person shooting games with a trackball. Light gaming is definitely doable: my 4-year old plays Purble Place without a single problem.

Overall, this keyboard satisfies our need for operating an HTPC in the living room and were happy with it.

I bought this keyboard to replace the standard PS/2 mouse & keyboard that came with the Acer Aspire X1200 I bought to use as a home theater pc. And it has performed very well. It sits naturally & easily in my lap when typing on the couch. The keys are only average as far as functionality, but I dont do long typing tasks on that computer anyway, only short emails, tweets & password entry. I like the fact that there are two left mouse triggers on the device. It makes it possible to do some mouse related tasks, like simple web browsing with one hand. The hotkeys are all of average use & functionality. And dont get in the way.

The trackball is main reason I got this item, b/c it makes the keyboard a truly portable device. Its terribly sensitive, but it just takes time to get used to it. Thanks to that little trackball I dont need a tv tray or laptop podium or ANY special surface to use my computer from a distance.

Speaking of distance, the wireless capability of this keyboard is amazing. It performs better than any of my tv remotes and I can truly see the benefits of the RF technology with this peripheral. The keyboard goes to sleep in a few minutes but wakes up quickly with a single key press (trackball will not wake it up) & it registers that key press. I suppose this is why it has such excellent battery life.

Overall, I can safely recommend this keyboard to anyone wanting to use it for a home theater pc. I couldnt pick a better way to control a computer hooked up to my HDTV.

I wanted a wireless keyboard to use with my big screen for watching Netflix. After reading many reviews, I decided to give the adesso a try. Installation was quick and easy on my pc running Vista. I installed an extension cable for the dongle just as a precaution. Others had commented on connectivity issues with the dongle plugged into the back of the computer. Ive been very pleased with the overall function. I can now sit anywhere in the room and it has worked well. The trackball takes some getting used to. Its very sensitive and the cursor moves very quickly. The keyboard does go into a sleep mode after about 8 minutes, to conserve the battery, but touching any key wakes it right up. For my application this has been perfect and would therefore recommend it.

I built 2 HDTVPCs this year and ordered a touchpad keypad for my first machine ( Big Mistake ! )
tried the Adesso mini trakball for second. As soon as I can afford I will trash first one. This is a far superior
keyboard. It dosent have to be AIMED, the Ball works flawlessly and the size fits your hands and the buttons are
exactly where they should be. I cant imagine anything better !!!

Took only seconds to hook-up and the range was over 50 ft. Fits very well on your lap and is easy to use. By the feel of the keyboard you can tell its not the most expensive and sometimes the trackball sticks, but it was well worth the price. I recommend this product.

Im using this with my HP HD laptop for my TV entertainment system.
Bear in mind this is a small keyboard. Its meant to sit with you on a couch or in your easy chair. So I wouldnt write any dissertations with it. Ive had it only two days and notice that it takes a while to get used to typing, making logging into some online accounts a little tricky (accidentally hit caps lock or num lock), but thats going to take practice and maybe a little hunting and pecking to get used to.

The track ball is another thing to get used to but responds pretty much as expected. If I jerk my thumb too quickly the mouse will definitely fly across the screen, but it is a quick learning curve to be able to point where you need to. The sweet scroll button on the left hand trigger is a great feature for browsing web pages quickly, and I dont think it was mentioned in any of the specifications for the product online so it was a great surprise!

Ive found that the signal is pretty strong all over my living room (Ive read 25 away but have not tested this yet), but I am able to block it directly if I stick my knee too high while in my seat or my dog jumps in front of me. I think this is pretty much point blank blocking of the signal and is rare. Overall Im satisfied with the performance for the price. Maybe a more expensive keyboard is worth it to others, but this gets the job done!

Picked this keyboard up after I saw it used in an HTPC for less than $1,000 article on Engadget to give it a whirl at home.

Pros
-Cost
-Decent trackball accuracy
-Comfortable to use whether sitting on your lap, or held in mid-air just navigating.

Cons
-Worlds cheapest quality keyboard. The keys feel horrible. In contrast to the sturdy frame construction, the pretty good trackball, and the mouse/media keys, the actual keyboard is HORRIFIC.
-Sleep mode. Sometimes the keyboard goes into sleep mode and theres no visual indication of this except for the lack of on-screen response. I found that rolling the trackball a few times then hitting the left mouse button brings it out of sleep better than any other method. Which admittedly makes absolutely no sense, but IT WORKS!
-Have to keep a spare wired keyboard around because with this keyboard you cant access BIOS settings or force the PC to boot from CD/DVD instead of HDD.
-Misses keystrokes. This is probably due to the crappy keyboard quality, but if you type reasonably fast this thing misses letters all over the place. Good enough for a quick IM, but dont write an e-mail to your boss.

Other thoughts...
Despite the keyboard quality, I would recommend this keyboard to others who are looking for something simple yet effective. Just dont try putting the adapter anywhere other than line-of-sight maybe fifteen feet. My PC sits behind a smoked glass door with the rest of the home entertainment gear, otherwise this thing would stick out like a unicorn horn.

I had just finished setting up my mediaPC and was ready to try out this wireless keyboard. Setup was a breeze (plug and play) and it worked great while standing next to the PC. Now my situation may be different since my mediaPC is tucked away in a closet next to the media room. So with that in mind, I can still use the keyboard in the media room within about 10 of the closet but anywhere beyond that distance and it becomes a paperweight. I may try getting a USB extension cable to move the RF unit closer. Also dont expect to be able to type 50+ words per minute on this thing. Its just not quick enough to keep up even if the signal quality is excellent. Therefore I give this a 3 out of 5 since it does its job - just not well enough for my situation.

I use this RF wireless keyboard to operate a PC placed at a distance of about 20 feet behind a wall. The PC is connected to a HD TV that is placed in my family room. The keyboard set-up went smoothly without any glitch, and the connection has so far been quite steady. The optical trackball makes smooth movements, and the pointer is easy to manipulate. The side-buttons on the keyboard correspond to a mouses right- and left-click buttons, and are not only convenient, but also effective. This device has surpassed my expectations. The keyboard is extremely useful whenever I watch streaming movies (Netflix)--it is so convenient to pause and restart the movie from my couch.

I think this keyboard is great. I have the computer/USB receiver in the basement (with a video cable coming to the TV on the first floor), and Ive never had signal issues using the keyboard from the couch. The rubber feet are useless and came off right away. I dont use it for a lot of typing, but its perfect for queuing up online content to watch on TV. It might not hold up to hours and hours of typing, but thats what wired keyboards are for.

If you store it with a button depressed, youll drain the batteries quickly. This is the only problem Ive had. If youre having problems, check your batteries. The keyboard goes into sleep mode somewhat quickly but can be brought back by pressing any key. Battery life is good if you dont let things sit on it.

In my recliner, 42 inch monitor, keyboard and mouse on my lap. Convenient! Once you get used to the keyboard, you still have to slow down your typing. In a few days you will be typing at the speed the system can accurately handle. Going back to a standard keyboard is effortless. With this model it is a very good idea to blow out (clean) the keyboard frequently. I believe it is a good value.
